For dessert, noble cooks are invited to present their culinary artistry in a Sweets and Subtletie Competition!
Competition description:
ONCE UPON A KUCHEN
A Coronation Dessert Competition hosted by Lady Delilah Meinhardt & Izzy Meinhardt
Once upon a time, in a kingdom not so far away, a Crown was to be placed, a Court assembled, and the youth of the East are ready for their favorite part of any party- dessert.
As such, Lady Delilah Meinhardt, Izzy Meinhardt, and the youth of our region invite the bakers, cooks, and confectioners of the East to Once Upon a Kuchen, a dessert competition inspired by the foods of the Holy Roman Empire and Märchen (fairy tales).
Create a nut-free sweet inspired by the many lands and foodways that spanned the Holy Roman Empire. Your entry might be recreated from a period recipe, inspired by a particular region or ingredient, influenced by historical culinary traditions—or take those inspirations somewhere wonderfully whimsical.
Historical scholarship is welcome. Imagination is encouraged. Deliciousness is strongly advised. A gingerbread dragon guarding a valuable hoard of marzipan? Yes, please.
But please... make your creations nut free. Nuts are a major allergen, and we don't want to hurt our friends!
Three honors shall be bestowed:
King & Consort’s Choice
Chosen by Their Majesties as a confection worthy of the royal table.
Best Documentation
For the entry demonstrating exceptional research, historical interpretation, and presentation of its inspiration.
Youth’s Choice
Chosen by the youth of the realm according to their own exacting standards of taste, creativity, appearance, and whimsy.
Documentation is encouraged but is not required unless you wish to be considered for Best Documentation.
So consult your manuscripts, explore the many kitchens of the Empire, and venture into the enchanted forest.
Bring us something worthy of happily ever after, for every Coronation deserves a sweet ending.
Come, noble cousins, and bear witness to the dawning of a new reign!
