The Shire of Hadchester sends greetings to all the young subjects of the East:  We invite you to join us for the Battle of the Bairns - a day of youth activities, challenges, creativity and prowess!

Some may think adults have all the fun...  but we in Hadchester know better!  This youth-focused event will offer a myriad of activities for Eastern subjects under 17 years of age.  Bring the whole family and join us to celebrate the children of the East!

Planned Activities to include...

- Fighting & Fencing:  A testing ground for young fighters and fencers to show their mettle.  Youth fighters and fencers willing to answer the challenge will take to the field to prove their prowess!  Tournaments will be arranged day of, by age bracket, based on participation and available marshals.

- Archery & Thrown Weapons:  Thrown weapons and archery ranges to prove the precision of these progeny.  Youth throwers and archers who wish to step onto the range will have the opportunity to loose and throw!  Tournaments will be arranged day of, by discipline, based on participation and available marshals.

- Arts & Sciences:  An A&S display for young artisans to demonstrate their knowledge and creativity.  Youth artisans are invited to bring their creations and research to display and dazzle!  A populace-choice vote will take place throughout the day, with a prize for the most favored displays.

- Toy Box Largesse Drive & Competition:  Over the age of 17? No worries!  The Shire of Hadchester challenges you to support our kingdom by providing for the Toy Chest!  Submit your entry for display the morning of the event.  A populace-choice vote will take place throughout the day, with a prize for the most favored offering.  Remember to review the Toy Chest Vision & Donation Guidelines (https://dm.eastkingdom.org/2025/08/23/toy-chest-vision-statement-and-donations-guidelines/ ) when planning your entry.

- Activities for all ages:  Not interested in competition? Just here to have fun? Too young to armor up? Never fear!  We will have non-competetive and family friendly activities available for all ages as well - including arts & crafts, coloring, dancing, and medieval games!

Directions:

Route 1 - Take the exit (right turn if headed northbound, left turn if headed southbound) for BUS 1 (Main Street) at the interchange by NC Hunt Lumber toward downtown Damariscotta.  The Inn Along the Way is located directly off this intersection.

There is no fee to attend this event.

Feast:
n/a - There will be no feast at this event, we recommend bringing a picnic lunch to enjoy on site, or heading out into the local area to forage.
