Event details

Come one and all to celebrate Spring with the Waking of the Salamander!  Let us spark our creativity with the sharing of knowledge, food, and fire.
If you are unfamiliar with SCA camping, this is a good event to get you started.  If you don't wish to camp, you are welcome to attend for Saturday as a daytrip.  Regardless of how you attend, you are encouraged to bring an item for the potluck (signup linked further below) and any knowledge that you would like to share.

In previous years we have booked the Ridley Creek State Park's group campsites, but this year we're trying out a new location at Fort Washington State Park.  While the environment will be a little different, the format is planned to be much the same as last year:  a popup village of artisans, so that practitioners of various arts & sciences may congregate and share their knowledge in a casual setting.  If you are interested in hosting an artisan tent and/or teaching, please use the form linked further below.

Additionally, we will host the Barony of Bhakail's Bardic Championship:

We call upon the bards of this land to come forth from the cold and warm our tavern with story and song!  This year we will select our new Baronial Bardic Champion.  Performers of all kinds are invited to share their favorite bardic arts – music, dancing, storytelling, or some other performing art!
The contest will have two rounds.  For the first round, please prepare a piece inspired by some element of the Bhakail coat of arms – whether it be our dancing salamander, its burning flame, our beautiful trees, or the elegant quills.  The second round will be bard’s choice.  Pieces should be either period or SCA appropriate, and no documentation is required.  Please keep performances to 5 minutes or less; if there are five or more contestants, contestants may be eliminated between rounds.

Directions:

Group Campsite D, GPS Coordinates:  40.120141, -75.227512
If using Google Maps:  420 Militia Hill Rd, Fort Washington, PA 19034

This section of Fort Washington State Park may be described as Fort Washington State Park - Center.  It is accessible via Militia Hill Road if coming from East of the park or Joshua Road if coming from West of the park.  Turn onto State Park Road (St Park Rd) and follow signs to the Hawk Observation Deck; the turnoff for the Group Camping road will be right there, and Campsite D is the first campsite on the left.
The road into the campsites is paved and the campsite is right along the road, so there is no need to hike in your gear.  Attendees may pull up for drop off and then park after.  There is parking further down the road by Campsites A and B, or you may park at the lot by the Hawk Observation Deck and Restroom.

If you plan to take public transportation, Fort Washington is a stop along SEPTA's Lansdale/Doylestown Regional Rail Line and there are combinations of bus routes that will get you close, but you will likely still need a ride to get into the park.  Please use the Barony's email distribution list, Discord Server, or Facebook Group to coordinate ridesharing or pickup.
