St. Andrew visits Bavaria

Come join Barony An Dubhaigheainn as our patron saint, St Andrew, visits Bavaria for a fall volksfest in the biergarten.  Biergartens came about due to seasonal limitations on when beer could be brewed, which were in the Bavarian brewing regulations by 1539.  The cool seasons were chosen to minimize the risk of fire when boiling mashed grain into wort.  Numerous conflagrations had occurred, which resulted in the prohibition of brewing during the summer months.  In response, large breweries dug cellars in the banks of the River Isar to keep their beer cool during storage.  "Beer cellars" for consuming beer on premises naturally followed.  This expanded outside the cellars where benches and tables were set up for people to enjoy themselves in the shade of trees in what would become biergartens.

The tournament to determine the next Baronial Rattan Champion will be part of the festivities!

that on St.  Andrew’s Day,
We find a new rattan Champion
So fighters come and play!
As Baronial Champion it is my quest
To be relieved by a fighter who is proven the best
I have machinated, planned and schemed to create
A tournament that will decide your fate.
Some trees and rope, we got us a tomb
A glorious labyrinth of impending doom!
Fighters beyond our borders
Join us with weapons and shield.
Though the Champion’s Sword, Baldric and Title
Is only for An Dub’ers taking the field.
Come to witness or compete, you don’t want to miss…
