Event details

Come one and come all to the Crown Province of Ostgardr and its Canton of Northpass as we celebrate the changing of the seasons and we celebrate each other!  As the seasons change so too is it time for the changing of the guard in Ostgardr.  Our champions of Archery, Bardic, Rapier, Rattan, Thrown and Youth have served honorably for the year and now it's time to find the next who will rise to the challenge, compete and win the day!

Championships:

Archery:
Champion Ivarr Valsson
MIC:  Suuder Saran
Hail to the noble populace of Østgarðr,

Let it be known to all who wish to participate and compete for the title of Archery Champion of Østgarðr, this year we will have a murder mystery to solve!

Prospective champions will have to demonstrate their skill with bow and arrow to discover clues, unravel the mystery, and most importantly, catch the dastardly villain before they make their escape!

The tournament will consist of four shoots.  The first three shoots will offer our contenders a chance to gather clues that will lead into the final shoot where they will have to shoot not only the villain, but also the location and the weapon used!

Those wishing to participate may come to shoot for the championship at any time starting from the range opening to about an hour before court.

In service,
Ivarr Valsson

Bardic:
Champions Drustan of Old Stone Bridges and Teodara Ivanić

When I was just a baby bard, I was told that a bard's purpose was to Entertain, Educate (teach something new or known) and Enlighten (make the audience think or feel).  I hold that in my heart during every performance, and I want you to as well.

Our competition will be 2 rounds, and you will bring your best, most brilliant work.  You will be judged by your ability to Entertain, Educate.  and Enlighten.

Pieces should be SCA period appropriate, about the SCA, or in a format comparable to SCA appropriateness (ex.  Certain folk songs or reworks of older pieces).  Please, no more than 7 minutes per piece.  An introduction to your piece would be preferred.

As a bonus, Drustan has issued a challenge:  You will be replacing both a musician and a storyteller, anyone that can perform both a musical piece and a spoken word piece will receive a gift from me (doing both will not affect your score.  It's just an extra challenge to expand your skills)

As an additional bonus for those daring enough to try, any bard that can perform a musical piece and spoken word piece on the same specific topic will receive an extra gift.

Be brave.  Be bold.  Most of all, be brilliant.

Rapier:
Champion Eliayhu al-Tahli known as “Tally”
MIC:  Eliayhu al-Tahli known as “Tally”

Rapier Format:  Tally Tip Tourney
A Tally Tip Tourney is weighted so more experienced fencers have more of a challenge.  MODs get one life, OGRs get two, etc.  This means if a higher level fencer wins, they will have really earned a serious victory.  This format also gives newer fencers more chances, and more fencing experience.

Rattan:
Champion Perez ben Meir Gerson
MIC:  Valgard Stonecleaver
A Missive from Perez ben Meir Gershon, Østgarðr Heavy Weapons Champion:
To all those brave and noble warriors who would succeed me in the great honor of serving as Heavy Weapons Champion of the only Crown Provence in the Known World, join ye this day in for a tournament that will test the skill of thine arms, the cunning of thine mind, and the strength of thine leadership.

The tournament shall be in the Bedford Points Format (Link this to https://cunnan.lochac.sca.org/index.php/Bedford_Points_Tournament ).  After the each round, points shall be totaled and each fighter paired with another fighter with a similar point total for the next round.  The total number of rounds shall depend on the number of participating fighters and time allowed.

The finals shall be a best of 5 with rotating weapons forms, with a twist!  The first form will be army!  Finalists will take turns selecting from the other combatants to form their own melee unit, keeping in consideration factors of prowess, weapons mix, unit cohesion, etc.  They will then have a brief time to formulate their strategies before taking the field in a single pass open field battle fought to the last standing.  A special prize is offered to be shared among the winning side as incentive to fight well and honorably under another’s banner.  After this first round, the finalists will continue in a more traditional singles format, alternating choice of weapons form, beginning with the combatant whose side lost the melee point.

Thrown:
Champion Wojtek z Wisny
MIC:  Ronan Fitzrobert

Lord Wojtek issues challenge for the Thrown Weapons title:
“On Earth was the battlecry.  They then sent forth from their hands shafts hard as
file, murderously sharpened spears flew.” Prove your skill in the ancient weapon, the Throwing Spear!

Youth Combat:
Champion Nova of Ostgardr
MIC:  Carrick MacSeain w/ MIT:  Arnora Ketilsdottir

"Youth combatants age 6 to 17 are welcome to join the fight for the next Ostgardr youth combat champion.  Come to face off against the dreaded rubber duckies in a game where you keep what you kill (Note:  no actual rubber duckies will be harmed in this event).  The rules are simple :  the first to knock the toy off the opponents helmet wins and gets to keep that toy (plus all the other rules of youth combat).  Prize will also be given for best death so feel free to ham it up.  Also note that combatants are welcome to fight without being considered for youth combat champion if they wish."
