Hunter's Moon - Fencing and Forestry on the Borderlands
Hosted by Shire of Anglespur - Hoosick Falls, NY
Event date: August 29th, 2025 - September 1st, 2025
Event Last Modified: August 29th, 2025
Event details
Vermont Rail is doing some construction on the railroad today, and have "road closed" signs on either end of Caretaker's Road. According to rail worker, they should be done by then; however, given the nature of construction, it is possible that the signs may still be there when people start to arrive. If that is the case, people may enter from the intersection of Caretaker's & Cottrell Roads and across the 'one lane bridge' into the entrance to Beardsley Farm (event site), which from this direction will be on the left. Red SCA signs will be present with arrows.
*****Updated August 27th, "link" to booklet added and Bardic Competition updated*********
At the very edge of our Shire, on the Borderlands, there will be an encampment to train and ready ourselves for exploration into what lies beyond in the Great Unknown. There will be Scholas for both Fencing and Forestry, with schedules to be posted here as available. Instruction will be offered by Experts and Outlaws from Far and Anon.
Archers and fighters of all ages will have the opportunity to challenge themselves against brigands and monsters, for we know not what lies beyond our Borders. Schola classrooms, used for Forestry and Fencing during the daytime hours will be made available for board games and games of strategy and adventure in the evenings. Bring your favorite games…
Fencing battles, Thrown Weapons, Heavy List combat, and Archery both Royal Rounds and novelty shoots are some of what you can look forward to.
Bardic on the Borderlands:
Saturday 7:00 PM - Master Bobby Tytes is hosting a bardic competition at the fire pit and ring near the fencing lists. As we gather on the edge of the great unknown, we want to hear pieces about what lies beyond that border. Each competing bard will perform for and be judged by the audience in a popular vote. Prizes will be awarded for best Performance by a Newcomer and for Populous Favorite.
Please try to keep your pieces under 5 minutes.
There will be youth activities and youth combat.
Some of the forestry classes that are currently planned include, how to start a campfire by medieval means, cooking over an open fire, an introduction to medieval medicine, coppicing and pollarding woody plants, how to make cordage, what is in a medieval forestry kit, secrets of the Plant ID Masters the extended version, how to weave a bark basket, an introduction to the East Kingdom Royal Forester’s Guild, how to weave a Bark Basket and shelter construction with a canvas tarp. Please know that as always classes may change due to the availability of the instructors.
This is the farthest point out in our shire, past our towns and villages. The site is primitive, but there will be port-a-castles in convenient places. Please bring the water you are planning to use while on site. There will be over 150 gallons of water available, however it is a very primitive site (it is a large field in the woods). There are no showers on or near the site. Please bring portable metal fire “pits” for your camp fires.
The site is a State Park that is carry-in, carry-out for trash. We have plans in place to remove trash from site for a small donation and will have bags available that must be used for legal disposal.
If you need power for c-pap machines or other accommodations please e-mail the Event Steward before August 20th.
