Event details

In the lands of the Housatonic River, change comes slowly.  Since the reign of Akbar II there have only been six barons and five baronesses Beyond the Mountain.  Therefore, when the coronet of the thirteenth oldest Barony in the Known World changes – a Barony older than all but four Kingdoms – it behooves the subjects of the East to take notice.  Such transitions should be marked by pomp, and ceremony, and attended by signs in the heavens, so seldom do they transpire.

On the 11th of May, such a ceremony shall occur.  Mark and Gwenllian, having held the lands of the white oak in the King’s name for six years, will retire from the Housatonic thrones, and the coronet will change for only the sixth time in fifty-two years.  Therefore, join us to celebrate the Investiture and acclamation of Sir Angus Gove MacKinnon and Mistress Ciara McRobbie as the seventh Baron and sixth Baroness of the Barony Beyond the Mountain.

The Barony Beyond the Mountain is delighted to host the East Kingdom Armoured Champions Tourney at our Investiture, and we bring the missive below from the current Sovereign Champion of Armoured Combat.

To All Rattan combatants who would vie for the title of Sovereign and Consort's champion of arms-below is the format for this year's contest!
The day will begin with all combatants distributed into 4 pools to fight a round-robin style tournament.  Combatants in this round may bring their preferred weapons form.  The top 4 combatants of each pool will advance to the next round of 16.

The Round of 16 will be double elimination, with all pairings being a single pass, and double-kills re-fought.  Combatants in this round may bring their preferred weapons form.

Starting in the Quarter Finals, all pairings will be fought best 2 of 3 passes, with double-kills being re-fought.  Combatants in this round may bring their preferred weapons form.  PLEASE NOTE:  if a combatant enters the Quarter Finals with zero losses, then loses 1 pass and wins 2 - that combatant does not retain any losses.  If a combatant has 1 loss going into the Quarter Finals, that combatant must still lose 2 of the 3 passes to be eliminated.

The Semi-Finals will be fought best 2 out of 3 passes.  The combatant with 1 loss must win 2 passes, the combatant with no losses need only win 1.  All passes in the Semi-Finals will be fought with each combatant's preferred weapons form.  The Finals will be fought as a best of five (5) with all prior losses forgiven.

Finals:
Round 1 - Weapon Chosen by Sovereign
Round 2 - Weapon Chosen by Consort
Round 3 - Weapon Chosen by Lower Precedent Combatant
Round 4 - Weapon Chosen by Higher Precedent Combatant
Round 5 - Combatants Bring Their Best (Weapons form)

There are also other things to do!  Excellent food, a thrown weapons range, and fencing will all be available alongside an A&S Display.

The site is DRY.  No alcohol is permitted on site for any reason, including A&S Display, consumption, gifts, for sale, or distribution.  Please contact the Steward if you have any questions.

The midday meal will be a Period progressive feast by THL Sisuile Butler.  The plan is not for a traditional "dayboard", but instead a progressive feast, served in two courses.  It will be served buffet style, so people can eat in the main hall or (hopefully) outdoors if the weather is nice.  The feast is based on the Lord of Ireland's household accounts in the 1590s to give me a guide for what is appropriate to serve in May and a couple of contemporary cookbooks for the recipes and the mix of dishes in each course.

The menu currently stands as:
1:  Salat of All Kinds of Herbs, Turkey, Spinach Fritters, Rice Tarts
2:  Roasted Beef with rosemary and thyme, Cooked Greens, Spring Pea Tarts, and Fine Cakes
With the traditional bread, butter, fresh and aged cheeses alongside both courses.

As is usual with THL Sisuile's feasts and dayboards - all pastry and batter will be gluten free (though Mistress Randall is making her traditional wheat breads, those are baked in a different kitchen).  Detailed ingredient lists will be posted online and outside the kitchen, please let me know if you have any dietary concerns that I can address.  Please visit the event website for the full feast breakdown of ingredients and removes.

The site is accessible as per the Accessibility Porter’s criteria.  Please contact the steward for the full breakdown.

There will be a thrown weapons range for practice, as well as some fencing coordinated by our own baronial fencing champion, Lord Gareth.

Unto all who may hear these words, distant fellows and neighbors next door, pray attend.  On the day of their Investiture, Sir Angus and Mistress Ciara, newest Baron and Baroness of Barony Beyond the Mountain, have the wish to see your Arts and Science works.  Bring for display something you have made or a skill you have learned, since the start of the pandemic, that you are most proud of.  Their Housatonic Excellencies shall make time over the course of the day to discuss with the display with all who shared their works.  Please contact Lord Severin at moas@bbm.eastkingdom.org to arrange for display space.

BUT WAIT!  There is more!  We will also be hosting Youth Heavy Combat!  Bring your youths!  Bring their desire for combat!  And maybe some friends too!  Youth Heavy Combat is for fighters aged 6-17.  Loaner gear will be available on a first come, first served basis.  We encourage all fighters to bring at the very least their own groin protection, along with anything that is appropriate for armor, even if they lack a full kit.

Additionally, the EK Youth Combat Program is also seeking donations of loaner gear, which will be distributed to marshals in need to support the program.  For a full list of items appropriate for donation, please see https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Wmlb8IPqbrjRiLVN6xBQjsijWwT3CgzC0u3eJ6Ceib8/edit?usp=sharing
