Event details

As the dark of winter looms, the last harvest is brought in and the veils between the world of living and dead are at their thinnest, join us as Concordians gather for our annual Ceilidh, a Celtic-inspired celebration to honor the year past.

Highlights of the day will include:

Baronial Bardic Championship:  Ceilidh is the traditional venue for Concordia’s annual bardic championship.  The theme for this year’s competition is “tall tales”.  Come ply your wit and wisdom to the crowd for a chance of prizes and if you are a Concordian (and able to fill the responsibilities), the honor of being chosen as the barony’s champion.  We also invite exhibition performances and will be planning other bardic activities for the day.

Silent Auction for Charity:  This year, Concordia mourned the passing of Master Ernst Nuss von Kitzingen, court baron and 2nd Tyger of the East.  In his honor, our annual charity auction will be raising funds for the Veterans Miracle Center of Albany, NY

A&S Display:  For many Concordians, Ceilidh was their first event and we expect that to be true this year as well.  Whether you are new to us or an old veteran, for our A&S display this year, we want entries that will introduce yourself and spotlight all the things Concordians and friends can do.  The SCA boasts that if it was done in the Middle Ages, someone does it now...let’s show that off!  (This will be demo only, no prizes or judging.)

Activity Lounge:  Try your hand at making “corn dollies”, an ancient craft associated with harvest rituals popular in Celtic cultures and traceable as far back as drawings on ancient Minoan pottery.  Relax with a kid-friendly coloring corner, challenge old friends and new to some board games, or just hang out and chat.

Traditional Games:  Celtic inspired with a SCAdian twist.  The Sheep Toss, Haggis Hurl and arm wrestling contest will be back again this year, with both fun and prizes to be had.

Feast:  The cooks of Concordia are assembling to do our barony proud and maybe putting some new twists on old favorites.  The feast will also feature the traditional Bjorn’s Toast and the New Fire ceremony, our celebration of Concordians who have passed from this world.  (If you wish to participate in the New Fire ceremony, bring a candle.)
