Event details

"Come Sons of Summer, by whose toile,
We are the Lords of Wine and Oile:
By whose tough labours, and rough hands,
We rip up first, then reap our lands.
Crown'd with the eares of corne, now come,
And, to the Pipe, sing Harvest home..."
- Robert Herrick

Join the Shire of Glenn Linn as we celebrate the season with a Harvest festival and Feast!!
RAIN OR SHINE - we have the indoor space for all activities if needed.

Activities will include:
- Typical harvest field games:  3-legged race, sack race, turnip toss and, as always, Salted Fish
- Fancy Decorated Bread Contest:  It's not just the taste, it's how fancy the decoration is on top!  These breads won't be eaten until feast, after the contest, so there's no accounting for taste ????
- Gifts for the Royal Children's Favor Box:  In Asian cultures, Harvest coincided with tax day.  Please help pay "tax" by giving to the Royal Children's Favor Box.  [A list of age appropriate favors will be posted soon].
- Corn Dolly (Wheat Weaving):  Not corn, not a dolly, this tradition dates back before the middle ages and is still done today.  Paper strips and paper straws will also be available.
- Dancing:  The traditional dance of Guldize is the “Cock in Britches”, which copies the process of sowing and harvesting grain.  With enough participants we can attempt this ancient dance.
- Räbelichtli Carving:  Räbelichtli or Turnip Jack-O-Lanterns are an easy and fun seasonal craft for children.  We will have a limited supply of turnips available for the youngsters (and young at heart) on a first come, first served basis.  You can also bring your own turnip if you like.  Once carved, the Räbelichtli will be illuminated during the feast.

* There is room on site for heavy list and a marshal will be present for those who would like to come and fight

* A&S Classes may be offered - check back to see.
