New to the SCA and unsure how to get started? Already here but want to try something new? Or are you the type who wants to do it all? This is the event for you!

Starting something new can seem daunting, and a bit of a financial investment.  Have no fear there are creative approaches that are kind to your coin purse and will see you well on your way to discovering a new passion.  The event will offer classes on several aspects of the SCA, with a focus on where to spend your money wisely as you try something new.  We will answer the age-old question “I wish I knew this when I started”! 

Want to share your knowledge and help others get started? Are you an expert at scoring finds at thrift stores or garage sales? We are looking for teachers, contact the autocrat with your ideas.  We will also be offering martial classes geared to those just starting.

Merchants are welcome and there is no fee, however please contact our coordinator Lady Elspeth so she can plan space for you appropriately.

Ever wonder what you'd look like in a certain style of garb? Want to know how you'll look before putting the time and materials into it? Countess Margarita will have a range of clothing from various periods and countries available to examine and try on.  Come be inspired!

10:00 Inside Firehall - Roseia Posey
Hand Sewing for Beginners - Learn basic hand sewing to repair or make new Garb.  Class to encloses basting stitch , hem stitch and seeing on a button

10:00 Outdoor Tent - Montgomery Josh
Introduction to Siege and Combat Archery - overview and panel discussion / questions with myself, MyQ LaSala (CA Commander), and maybe other CA people

11:00 Inside Fire Hall - Arabella De Mere
Inkle and Tablet weaving on a budget!  Want to make awesome trim and don't have the money for a loom, cards, shuttle, or fancy thread? Not to worry!  In this class I will discuss some low cost alternatives for weaving equipment, and as a bonus, there will be a FREE make and take project!

Lecture:  ""Getting Started With Fencing"" All the things you need to know about fencing, but didn't even know to ask.  (What's Fencing? Finding a practice, gear, garb, authorizations, events, practices vs tournaments vs melees, etc.)

Intro to Weaving:  providing a basic introduction to both inkle and tablet weaving, including how to choose an easy pattern and materials to get started!

Creating the Dream- roundtable discussion about not only how to effectively recruit but also how do we create t""he dream"" and make it accessible to newcomers so they want to come back

1:00 Martial Field - Luiza Vincente
Sweatin' to the (real) oldies - Fencing style.  Together we'll run through basic warm-up drills and some forms that anyone can do from beginner to expert.  Learn to handle a sword (complementary 'swords' provided), basic advance, retreat, lunge, defense, and attack drills that'll help you get warmed up for the day ahead and before every fight! 

2:00 Inside Fire Hall - Contessa Vienna de la Mer
Zhuzh up your SCA the affordable way:  Thrift and second hand stores can be an economical, creative, and mindful way to embellish your SCA experience.  Just be sure to go with a budget, an open mind, and an imagination.  I will share a few tips, tricks, ideas and bring some of my favorite “recycled relics” as inspiration.

Introduction to Papercut Arts- a hands on class first talking about the history and styles of papercut arts throughout the world and then trying it out with provided materials (including cutting mats).  All ages are welcome (children under 12 will need an adult present)

Live shooting of Ballistas and Combat Archery Bows/Crossbows - Come and try, siege weaopns!  Weather permitting.

Introduction to Medieval Boardgames

3:00 - Poddlings Place Merchant Booth - Elspeth y Gweledydd (Podling)
Kumihimo intro - Learn this form of Japanese braiding.  I’ll teach you the 8 strand spiral pattern.  Kits available for $4 or bring your own wheel and thread.  Taught at Podling’s Place merchant booth

4:00 Inside Fire Hall - Anne de Basillon
Intro to Heraldic Appliqué - easy applique for newer folks

4:00 Outdoor Tent - Ciaran ua Meic Thire
Reach for the Stars - how to do it all and not burn yourself out.  A class focused on how to balance multiple activities/tracks/disciplines, monitor and avoid burnout, and create a more supportive environment for those who are multidisciplinary

Registration Fees

ADULTS:  $20, with member discount $15
MINORS:  All attendees 17 and under are free

Deadline for mailing checks is July 1st

There is no feast however the Fire Hall will be offering lunch for purchase, all proceed to support their organization. 

Lunch menu will consist of hamburgers, hot dogs, perogies, and french fries. 
The firehall will have their bar open for this event
