Event details

Greetings to the great populace of the East and our neighbors.  River Wars XII is coming.  The event is now a Royal Progress so we will have the honor of hosting their Majesties for the day.
The event will have Rattan, Archery, Thrown Weapons, Rapier, Equestrian and A&S competitions.  Archery, Thrown Weapons, Equestrian and A&S are the Barony of Iron Bog's championships in which their Excellencies, Andre and Genevra, hope to find those who will represent the Barony for the year to come.  The Great Barony of Bhakail and Baron Muin will be sharing the thrown weapons and archery fields to find their champion as well.
For more Baronial fun the marshal Champions of Iron Bog and Bhakail will face off in competition during the day for bragging right for the Barony which wins the most in their encounters.
For those who have recovered from camping at Pennsic, camp space is available.  The Lady Katya Gordon will be preparing a fantastic Feast.  A dayboard will be prepared by the Lady Caitrina inghean Ui Bhraonain.
For those camping, a cold dinner will be served Friday and a continental style breakfast on Saturday morning, supplied by Lady Valery Fitzgerald .  Please come out and enjoy time with your friends and SCA family.

ALL ACTIVITIES WILL BEGIN AT 11AM SATURDAY.  ENDING AT 4 PM
BARONIAL COURT WILL BE 4:30.
ROYAL COURT TO FOLLOW CLOSELY THEREAFTER.

Rattan activities:
Friday night, Syr Sterling will run a torchlight tourney if there's enough interest.
Saturday Sterling is planning Rattan melee and single competitions.  These will include both Combat Archery and Siege weapons for part of the day.
Also Siege will share the archery range at some point to do a target firing range to allow people to learn this interesting activity.

Rapier activities:

Before the tournaments, the rapier field will host two special events:

1.  Don Morwil McShane will participate in a prize fight on the rapier field, immediately following morning court.

2.  The rapier champions of the baronies of Bhakail and Iron Bog will display their skills at arms in contest against one another for the honor of victory and the pleasure of Their Excellencies.

For rapier combatants, there will be a round-robin style tournament, in which the top performers will advance to a double-elemination bracket.  Prizes and accolades will be awarded to the victor, as well as those displaying exemplary honor, grace, and comportment.

Time permitting, the field will entertain a melee contest, in which two teams will be randomly constructed from the available pool of fencers.

Notice:  any fencing marshals in training who wish to assist in marshalling, please sign up with Master Lorenzo.  A sign-up sheet will be available on the field.

Archery:

There will be two Baronial Champions found this day.  The Baronies of Iron Bog and Bhakail seek people to represent their lands as Champion for the next year.
Royal Rounds may happen as well.  The Iron Bog shoot created by the current Champ is based on an Eastern Euro folktale called the Frog Princess.  There will be 5 stages to test distance, speed and accuracy.

IB Baronial A&S competition:

What is a river but a road to the sea?
This year's River Wars A&S competition's theme will be Nautical!
From any place and time pre 1700's, show us a facet of life onboard historical ships.  What kind of food would they eat? Where were they going, and why? What would they wear? What kind of tools did they have? How did they entertain themselves? What are some superstitions or beliefs? Feeling knotty? Rope us into your display with engaging subjects.

If possible, is there a modern equivalent?

Though being on theme is not a requirement for the competition, additional points and consideration will be awarded to entries that are thematic.

Alcoholic beverages will be accepted, but please note that the site is discreetly damp, so act accordingly.

If submitting a food entry, you must submit an ingredient list or it will not be displayed.

The winner of this competition will be named Iron Bog's Baronial champion and will be responsible for planning next year's competition.

More details on judging and rubric coming soon.

The other Baronial competitions formats will be posted when we have them.

After the Feast a torch light Bardic Circle will be held for the enjoyment of those staying late.  It will be organized by Lord Taliesan Perigrentor the Resurrected sovereigns bard of the East
