High Nobility & Low Stakes

TRM will be in attendance

Hosted by Barony of Concordia of the Snows - Scotia, NY

Event date: March 18th, 2023

Event Last Modified: February 20th, 2023

Event details

High Nobility & Low Stakes is an immersive SCA event.  Our immersion is not centered around a particular place and time, but around social status and respective entertainments.  Upstairs, you will find the Reverdie Revels, a masked ball in celebration of Spring, featuring delicate nibbles, exquisite clothing, and courtly manners.  Downstairs, you will find “The Golden Serpent,” a casual and even raucous tavern with hearty foods, gaming, and the general rabble.  While courtly manners reign upstairs, tavern disputes can lead to fencing knife fights or outdoor dueling (weather permitting).
Participants are highly encouraged to “sneak” between the spaces using whatever disguises they wish.  Some may simply remove regalia & don a simple cloak to visit the tavern.  Others may add a fancy mask and cape to sneak into the ball.  All attendees will be given a simple mask if they require one, but people are highly encouraged to bring their own fancy masks for the day.
We may have door guards to remind you of the tone of each space & to encourage a spirit of play in our day.  However, a game is only good if everyone is having fun.  Therefore, if you wish to have a spirited argument, a dramatic declaration of a courtly love poem, a duel, or any immersive action that relies on another attendee playing along, you *must* be certain that the other party consents to be part of the game.  Anyone who fails to do so will be banned from the overall competition, their tokens forfeit.
Participants will also receive a bag of twenty coin tokens*.  Each token is worth one point.  Tokens can be used for gaming downstairs in the tavern, tipping musicians, rewarding service, etc.  The event staff will also have 5 point coin tokens to be given at their discretion for acts that add to the overall spirit of the event.  This could include particularly graceful dancing, a splendid tavern argument, a dramatic fencing death, a creative disguise, etc.  The individual who has won the most overall points at the end of the day will receive a special prize.
This is a *dry* site.  However, we are in conversations with the site liaison for permission for our local brewer’s guild to make non-alcoholic drinks (0.5% ABV) such as homemade soda, or possibly kvass.  All beverages will be fully labeled as to even small alcohol content.  We will also be providing alcohol free beverages including mock red wine, and possibly something like sbiten.

*Attendees will also have the option to receive an additional 20 coins in exchange for their donation to the Concordia Fire Recovery Fund.  Minimum donation of $5.

We are looking for people willing to run gaming tables for the following games:  Primero, Shove Ha'Penny, Glückhaus, Hazard, Dreidel, Ace & Thirty.

Site Opens: 11:00 AM
Site Closes: 9:00 PM
