Event details

The Barony Beyond the Mountain is turning 50!

Founding Baron Balin the Fairhaired invites one and all to come celebrate at a special event on Saturday, July 9 at the Park Congregational Church, 283 Broadway, Norwich CT.  (Not to be confused with our Baronial Celebration Picnic in September.)

The Barony Beyond the Mountain is putting together a *free* demo to help with Park Congregational Church’s fundraiser dinner, which will be held after the demo closes for the day.  In accordance with Kingdom policies, the demo itself is an SCA event but the feast after the demo has ended is not.  Therefore, the SCA’s Covid protocols are in place for the duration of the demo prior to the dinner, and SCAdian participants are asked to please wear masks in all indoor spaces on site.

At 11 AM., an armored combat tournament will be held on church grounds to honor the Barony’s 50th Anniversary, with the victor to receive a prize of an engraved pewter cup which will be given by our Founding Baron and Baroness, Balin the Fairhaired and Morgana di Sam Peyre.

9:00 AM Outdoor setup begins, and Gate opens.  While this is a free event, Covid protocols apply for the duration of the demo.

The demo starts at 10 AM on the church grounds.  We are recruiting fighters for the heavy weapons tourney, Arts and Sciences demonstrators, demonstrations of anything related to the SCA, and merchants.  During the day, artisans are invited to display their skills and discuss their arts with guests.  Merchants are welcome to sell their wares.  There will be no table fees for merchants or artisans, and all participants must bring their own tables, chairs, and shade canopies.  Space for artisans and merchants will be available on the church grounds or inside the church hall.

There is NO site fee for this demo and it is FREE!  Please come and show off your wonderful medieval stuff!  If you wish to participate, please contact Anarra Karlsdottir at  Thank you!

Walk-in participants will be directed to the Barony Beyond the Mountain booth on site and will be asked to show ID and proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test from within 72 hours of attendance.

At 7:00 after the demo and the SCA’s official presence ends, Baron Balin will present a three-course feast with four dishes per course using 14th and 15th century recipes, English, French, and Italian.  **This portion of the day is not an SCA event.  This is a fundraising dinner for the church, which is offering SCAdians in garb a discount.** There will be time available for a few entertainers during the feast if performers are interested.  Cost:  Feast is $30 per person, $25 for SCA participants in garb.  $15 for children 12 and under, $12 for SCA participants in garb who are 12 and under.  Feast reservations and checks should be sent to Park Congregational Church, 283 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360 with the memo Medieval Feast, SCA.
