*Brennan and Caoilfhionn’s Ducal Challenges 2022 Event Announcement*
Are you getting excited for Ducal? I know I am!
Just a few bits of information before the event…
*Trolling in:*
When you troll in, you will be instructed to stay in your vehicle and routed through our gatekeepers. Please have your vaccine card (or a photo of it) and/or proof of negative results and your ID or membership card out and ready for everyone in your vehicle. You will be trolled in, receive your site token and event brochure while in your vehicle, and directed on where to park (parking is tight so thank you for your patience with us on this one). Please, if you can, because of the tight parking, carpool if you are able.
If you need to sign a waiver or have any issues trolling in, there will be a separate line you will be directed to in order to complete your check in.
*Tournament*
In order to participate in the tournament, you need to have an art entry. You can make it or someone else can, but in order to fight, art has to be involved. There are no IOUs allowed. The fighting will be taking place in the grassy ravine (it is flat) near the back of the event site. Please enter where designated. There is limited room for pop-ups so please be mindful and share as needed.
*Food:*
The menu is done! THL Charitye has come up with an amazing line up of deliciousness
Brisket
Bread and Butter
Pork and Cabbage Dumplings
Vegetable Samosas
Chicken Dumplings
Pierogi
Ravioli
Apple dumplings
Gluten Free options are being made available. Please contact either myself of Christine Dalessio so she knows how much to prepare. ????
*Bathrooms / Changing Areas:*
There are restrooms inside the event building that are available for use (please follow the signs and/or guidance from an event staff member). There will also be port-a-privies outside with a handwashing station in order to limit the number of people entering and exiting the site building. One will be located near the vigils, one near the fighting, and one near the merchants.
There will be a general changing area for those that do not come in garb. Please be aware that anyone (he/she/they) will be able to utilize this area. There will be privacy stations in order to effectuate your clothing change. If you are uncomfortable with this, please use the restrooms.
*Vigils:*
There will be a vigil space outside near the fighting. If you have not already contacted me for an early set up, please do so in order to receive instructions. Please also note that any refuse generated from vigil food (plates, cups, wrappers, etc.) will need to be hauled out by the vigil coordinator (or someone they appoint) in order to not overburden the event site’s limited refuse receptacles. If this presents any problems or issues, please contact me directly and I will work with you.
Also - extremely important- speakers will be limited to 2 minutes when elevations take place. There will be a gong…I will use it…so please ensure to be time aware
*Merchants:*
As indicated previously, the merchants will be located outdoors. This does two major things. One, the merchants will be able to watch the fighting and two those enjoying the fighting will be able to shop as well. Merchants, while we cannot provide pop-ups for you, we can provide one table each and two chairs. If you need more, please be prepared to bring extra. If you have any troubles setting up, please let me know so I can further assist you.
*Other tid bits of information:*
Please be patient and understanding with your fellow SCAdian. This is still in the time frame of first events for some and there are still some people that are not comfortable with close quarters and/or contact.
There is a drainage ditch near the parking lot. While it is safe to be in, there is a steep downwards incline with rocks at the bottom surrounding a big portion. Please be sure you and your children are aware of this in order to avoid any potential injury. If you want to go into the ravine, there is a sloping incline towards the back near the tree line.
While we will have chairs for court, chairs are limited. If you have a chair that you like more than a folding chair, you are encouraged to bring it to sit on during court. The chairs that are indoors must remain indoors and are not allowed outside (apart from what my staff and I have already placed for merchants and the MOL tables).
*Reminders:*
Alcohol is not allowed on the premises. Smoking/vaping is also not allowed on the premises. Please respect these rules in order to keep a good relationship with the event site owners and to avoid being asked to leave the site.
Thank you!

Ducal Challenge is so close!!
And it is shaping up to be a possible semi-drizzly one! With that in mind, here are a few tid bits of info for you!
Pop-ups – there is limited space for pop-ups. That does not mean you cannot bring any, but there are only a few spaces available for the populace to set up. If you are bringing a pop-up, please reach out to me or my staff before the event so we can gauge what amount of space is needed to accommodate you.
We will respectfully request that, if you can, share your pop up with others in your group/household. Vigils are allowed x2 10x10 pop ups and that space is already allocated for. Merchants are allowed x2 10x10 pop ups (not provided by the event staff) and that space is already allocated for. Tyger Camp has a 10x10 pop up already set to be placed so the kiddos will have some reprieve from the elements. Please note that this is on an all pavement parking lot - there can be no stakes. Please be sure to bring weights to keep things from flying away.
Heat – we are allowing small propane canisters (like the ones used on table top camp stoves). Anything larger will not be permitted. If you are cold and do not have access to anything to keep you warm, you will be allowed inside in the main hall so that you can keep warm – we don’t want anyone wet, cold, and miserable!!
Trolling in and Parking - when you troll in, as a reminder, you will be trolling in while in your vehicle. Please have your ID or proof of membership as well as your proof of vaccination or proof of negative medically administered covid test out and ready to expedite the process. If you do not show up to the event with BOTH of these, you will be asked to leave site and return with them. Once trolled in, you will receive your site token, a little handout of the schedule and site rules, and will be directed on where to park.
Tyger Camp - there will be an area designated for children (close to the fighting) where there will be youth viking gambling (all supplies will be provided), youth face painting, and youth combat. Keeping them close to you while also giving them their own space is a thing!!
Day board - as a reminder, day board will be available from 1:00 -3:00. This is during the fighting. The kitchen will have a table set up inside as well as by the fighting and servers will be present to help. Please bring your own plates and/or bowls.
Questions? Please contact either myself or my deputy, Aisling, and we will do our best to address any concerns you have before the event.
Thank you!

Ducal Covid Safe Announcement!
Good morning Ducal Challenge attendees!
First, thank you everyone who has reached out in one form or another with questions, comments and concerns. All of them were discussed at length with those who it needed to be discussed with.
Second, because the Covid Safe Policy will be in effect for the Ducal Challenges, you will still need to adhere to the Covid Safe Policy that is posted in the event listing - that is, you will need to bring proof of vaccination and/or proof of a negative medically administered covid test and be masked at all times when inside an area with 3 or more walls.
Also, at this time, afternoon court will remain indoors and masking will be required inside the main building. Unfortunately, there is absolutely NO COVER from the elements outside and, as such, an outdoor evening/afternoon court is not the greatest possibility. Trust and believe there were several of us trying to figure out the best alternative when the first announcement was made. However, with the second announcement stating October 1st as the effective date, thankfully those severe alternatives (outside...at the mercy of the elements...no cover...) are now moot.
As always, the Barony of Settmour Swamp wants everyone to feel safe attending our event. With Covid Safe still being in place, we hope that this makes it to where you are still comfortable attending.
In service,
Viscountess Sefa Hrafnsdottir, OP

Final Ducal Challenges Announcements!!
Vigils!! Please again be reminded that only two pop-ups or other similar shelters are able to be used at this site (there is a "no stake" thing as you will be located on the pavement ???? ). As indicated previously, you are allotted a 10'x20' space (the size of x2 10x10 pop ups) - so please plan accordingly!! Also, please be reminded that all vigils are expected to haul the refuse generated from same away from site! The site receptacles cannot handle the extra load.
The Site itself!! Please again be reminded that this is NOT at the site last used for this event...please check the event listing before making your trek!!
Covid Safe!! This policy is still in effect for this weekend and you will be turned away if you do not bring with you the required documents (photo ID or proof of membership AND proof of vaccination or a negative result from a medically administered Covid test no more than 72 hours old)!!
Evening Court!! Evening court will be indoors and masks will be required - please don't make me make the disappointed Sheva face at you... Also, court will be lengthy...please remain courteous and keep the noise levels down so all those that are to be recognized are able to be so with everyone able to hear and then cheer!
In many thanks,
~Sefa
