Event details
We will be presenting all Ruantallan has to offer. There will be an A&S display, a full day of martial activities, and much more. As more activities are planned we will update this space.
Tournament:
August 27th there will be a Rattan and Fencing tournament in Ruantallan. Between now and then we will be campaigning to attract as many visitors to our lands as possible; there will be a slight catch to the format for local fighters and fencers. We still hope ALL fighters of Ruantallan make it out to fight all visitors. This “tournament” is for you, to get as many visiting eyes on as many of you as possible. To that end, I am putting up an adoption certificate for a Porpoise (Ruantallan's populace badge) as incentive for visitors to win something unique.
Only visiting combatants to Ruantallan may fight for the right to henceforth call themselves “Campeón de la marsopa” (Champion of the Porpoise) and take home with them a symbolic certificate of adoption of a Porpoise.
The tournament format can most easily be described as “adult swim” but with points.
Each visiting entrant will be given a list/dance card/brochure of all the attending local combatants and all visiting entrants that submit their information no later than 2 weeks prior to the tournament.
Entrants may seek out combatants not residing within their home region for 3-5 passes in rattan or fencing and check off that fighter on their card along with a few notes on that local combatant.
After the time allotted for the tournament is past, entrants will hand in their cards/brochures.
Winner of the tournament will be selected based on two factors.
1) How many combatants from outside of their home region or (500km/300 mile radius of their home) that they engaged with.
2) The quality of their constructive feedback.
FAQ:
Questions: What if most of the visitors are in Rattan armour, how can they have passes with fencers?
A: If an entrant is in heavy list armour and it is not practical to change into fencing gear to engage with fencers. They must witness the passes done of a particular fencer against another fencer.
So long as the “witness” is authorized in the format they are witnessing and they are focusing and engaging with the fencer enough to be able to provide feedback that could benefit the fencer. Only under these grounds can they mark that fencer off on their card and acquire a point.
Question: Will the dance cards/brochures be private?
A: No. Each local combatant will have the ability to read all of their feedback at a later time for a chance to better their prowess.
Question: Why only fight combats from outside of your home region or 500km/300 miles from your home?
A: The point of this tournament style is to give incentive for people from the far reaches of the kingdom to have passes with people they typically could not encounter to fight. We are looking to provide combat feedback to every fighter with fresh eyes. Particularly aiming to help those combatants who, for a very wide range of complex reasons, do not get to travel outside of their home areas/country to fight against other talented fighters and expand their skillset.
Two combatants from the same place can certainly fight each other but it is assumed that they have opportunities to do this on a regular basis with consistent beneficial feedback and, as such, they will not receive points for these fights.
Question: I would like to have my information included on the dance card/ brochure. Where do I send my info?
A: 232287@members.eastkingdom.org. Include your SCA name, a brief biography (roughly 60 words max) and your highest level fighting award/ year received. A picture of yourself in your kit that you would like associated with your bio.
