COVID-19 Statement

The East Kingdom and the event staff are committed to making sure that our friends & families stay safe. Kingdom guidelines for COVID safety change often. Masks that conform to CDC standards and worn properly over the nose and mouth are required of all attendees over the age of 2 in all indoor spaces or in public tents or pop-ups with 3 or 4 walls up and may only be lowered briefly for eating or drinking. Masks are optional when outdoors and we encourage frequent handwashing and social distancing. Please take whatever steps you feel are necessary for your own sense of safety beyond the stated mandates.

All persons over the age of 5 are now required to show proof of vaccination or negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of the event. All persons over the age of 18 must also present government issued photo ID or a valid SCA membership card. Please have these in hand when checking in.

Although the SCA complies with all applicable laws to ensure the health and safety of our event participants, we cannot eliminate the risk of exposure to infectious diseases during in-person events. By participating in the in-person events of the SCA, you acknowledge and accept the potential risks. You agree to take any additional steps to protect your own health and safety and those under your control as you believe to be necessary.

The Brewing Championship Theme:  Medicinal

The Brewing Championship the competition will be Medicinal Brews.  Any category beverage (Beer, wine, mead, cordial, other) that features an ingredient that is believed to have medicinal properties.  Points awarded for taste and historical inspiration.  It should have to go without saying, but I'll say it anyway, a full ingredient list is mandatory.  We don't want anyone to be poisoned by homemade medicine.

The A&S Championship Theme:  “Something New”

The suggested theme of this year's Champion's display is "I've never done this before." Details about the theme are below, but please note that the theme is flexible and items not meeting the theme can also be entered.  Entrants must be present at Yule and must be available during the event at 1pm to chat with Baron Muin about their project.  The winner will be chosen by Baronial Choice.  Bhakail welcomes individuals from any group to become its champion, the only requirement being that the artisan chosen is willing to stand in Bhakail court and, if possible, help run the next A&S competition at Yule.

Items will be displayed in the library (3rd floor) and can be set up once Gate opens.  Items must be removed from display before the start of court.  Feedback about entries will not be given during the competition but can be made available after the event for those who are interested.

Baronial Champion's Display Theme
“I’ve never done this before”:  challenge offered by Lady Chana Freidl the Maker, current Bhakail A&S Champion, “We’ve all been away from our friends for so long, I’m sure some of you have branched out from your usual SCAdian hobbies.  Show me what you’ve learned since we were all last together!  Your challenge this year is to share a work (this can be a physical item, a creative endeavor, or research project) that presents something new that you learned since our last Yule celebration.  By no means do you need to present your best work; oftentimes the new crafts that we learn or the new skills that we practice seem to be less technically perfect than we think they should be.  But it is all part of the learning process!
Finished projects may be displayed, or you may present a record of your progress to date.  Written documentation is optional, but please be ready to discuss your project and your experience with Baron Muin.  Topics to prepare to talk about include:  your inspiration for starting this particular work, a discussion of the challenges you faced while working on it, and information about what you learned in the process.

You don’t need to live in Bhakail to become a Bhakail champion, you just need to be willing to wear the regalia and attend His Excellency Baron Muin in court.

Largess Challenge!  Come and show off talent or skills to fill the Largess Basket for their Majesties.  If you want to donate or get more information, please contact Lady Roseia Posey at

There will be no Dayboard at this event.  Meat pies that have been pre-ordered at registration may be picked up beginning at noon in the Ratskeller.  Guests are encouraged to bring their lunch or order from one of the many nearby restaurants in downtown Philadelphia.  Kitchens will be inaccessible to non-staff during the event.  Shared foods and “Potluck” type dishes are discouraged.

A feast of one remove will be served buffet style.  To follow.  Any questions please contact Lady Triona MacCasky at  All feast attendees should bring their own dishware and silverware, as well as platters or plates for family groups who wish to dine family style.  Guests who are not on-board for feast may eat food they bring with them in the Ratskeller, however shared “potluck” type foods are discouraged and no access to the kitchen will be provided.
