Day of Martial Champions
Hosted by Barony of Settmour Swamp - Pittstown, NJ
Event date: July 31st, 2021
Event Last Modified: July 27th, 2021
Event details
In Settmour Swamp we have business to attend to – for it is long overdue that we find our recently installed Baron and Baroness, new martial champions.
Tournaments are open to all with any necessary qualifications - however we ask that you not accept Champion positions (should you win) if you are the Champion for another barony, also if you compete in more than one martial activity that you only accept the Champion position for one discipline.
TOURNAMENT DESCRIPTIONS:
Heavy Weapons: Round Robin tournament, where combatants will bring their best weapons forms and strive against each of their worthy opponents. Each contest during the round robin portion of the tournament will be a single bout. At the conclusion of the first round of the tournament, the combatants with the four best records will advance the semi-finals, where bouts will be a best two out of three. If a third bout is necessary to decide the outcome, two-handed swords will be used to determine the final results. If a combatant is unable to compete with a two-handed sword, they may continue the contest with single sword. The finals will be determined by the same best two out of three format, with the third bout being decided by two-handed swords.
Rapier: Round Robin tournament. All rapier weapon forms will be allowed, contestants choice. The bouts in the round robin will be single kill. At the conclusion of the first round of the tournament, the two participants with the best records will then advance to fight best of three rounds bouts.
Archery: Our Baron has requested an a “Adventures of Baron Munchausen” theme for our Archery tournament and so Round one will be a William-Tell style shoot, Round two will be a balloon pop and Round three will be a timed advancing soldier style shoot.
Thrown Weapons: As our Baron has requested an "Adventures of the Baron Munchausen" movie theme for archery, we are carrying it over into thrown weapons as well. First Round will consist of *Cutting Bertholds Chains* throwers will have 4 axe throws to break two "chains" (likely ropes) Each "chain" will be worth 3 points. Second Round will be *Pop the escaping Baloons* throwers will have 4 throws at balloons to try to pop them but the knife has to stick. Each balloon is worth 3 points. Ties will be settled with a short throw royal round with axes and knifes.
We will be following all SCA, CDC and NJ state guidelines in place at the time of the event. The most recent SCA guidelines are here: https://www.eastkingdom.org/ek_announcement/ . Masking when in close proximity to others is encouraged. Bathroom facilities and shared surfaces including the check-in table and MOL table will be wiped down regularly and masks, sanitizer and sanitizing wipes will be readily available.
