Lions End Farmingdale Demo

Hosted by Canton of Lions End - Farmingdale, NY

Event date: June 6th, 2020

Event Last Modified: December 28th, 2019

Event details

We have been invited back to do an all-day demonstration of medieval arts, crafts, and fighting, with special emphasis on hands-on demonstrations for children on June 6, 2020 (rain date June 7 or 13).  This will coincide with Farmingdale Fire Department Street Fair.

Farmingdale Village is eager to have us show off our skills, and has offered us the use of the Village Green to display our skills to the surrounding neighborhood.  They will also push the demo within the school system and invite the surrounding neighborhood.  Fighters and fencers are encouraged to show their prowess (and show off their splendid armor), dancers are encouraged to display their fancy footwork, and artisans of all sorts are urged to both display their work and urged to give children (and their parents) HANDS-ON time to explore their crafts.

Vendors who have SCA related merchandise are encouraged to attend as well, especially if you are also willing to demo your craft.  There will be no fee for vending, but a valid tax ID is required.  You must preregister with the autocrat.

We are hoping to have enough fighters and fencers to hold tournaments with prizes.  Tournament participants will choose a child in the crowd to champion and will be given a favor (TBD) to give to them.  Token prizes will be given to the winners of the tournaments.

We have the use of the gazebo, and our 20X30 Green & White will be there for shelter, but pop-ups are also encouraged.  There is no feast, but we will be providing food and beverages, as well as encouraging potluck contributions.  Østgarðr has a tradition of "bring something to share" at demos.

Please send reservations to Nagashima Ichiro Ujimichi ( or post in the discussion area of the Facebook event, along with a brief description of what you intend to teach/display (and when, if it's not an ongoing thing, when you would be most comfortable teaching/displaying you craft).

If people are interested, we will have an after demo gathering at one of the local eateries.

Participants are asked to bring folding chairs, although we may have some available.
