Feast of the End of the Gaunt Days
Hosted by Barony of the Bridge - Hope Valley, RI
Event date: February 22nd, 2020
Event Last Modified: February 3rd, 2020
This small pot-luck gathering is part foodie-schola, and part schmoozefest, wherein anyone can come to just enjoy the day, or, if you like, share your finest concoctions to compete. There is no fee to attend, although donations of non-perishable food items to support those going through their own gaunt days are requested from those who can afford to share. They will be collected and donated to the local food pantry, as is our annual tradition.
Please provide an ingredient listing for any dishes you choose to share, so that participants can make informed decisions and avoid allergens as easily as possible. Judging will take place at 2pm, and throughout the day the rest of us can sample, learn techniques and swap tips. Those who bring a dish that feeds 4 or more can have it judged for a chance at small culinary-arts-related prizes (eg, harder-to-find spices used in SCA period cooking) and our deepest gratitude! Categories include: Meat Dishes; Meatless Dishes; Alcoholic Beverages; Non-Alcoholic Beverages; Best Historical Recipe; Gauntest Recipe; and Populace Favorite. Tokens will be given to each attendee at sign-in to use to cast their vote for the Populace Favorite.
This event will also host the Barony of the Bridge's Art & Science championship! Nuno Cabral do Mar, our current champion, has announced:
"The format for the competition will be 'shotgun A&S': competitors will show up with any materials they need, and they will have two hours to work on their art/science. (They may set up their workspace before the timer starts.) There is no requirement to *finish* in the time period, but it must NOT be started before you arrive." For more information or questions regarding the Bridge A&S Championship, please contact Nuno directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This site requires attendees to climb a handful of steps to enter, and the bathroom is too cramped for most wheelchairs. All activities are on one level.
Site Opens: 1pm
Site Closes: 9pm
