The Extraordinary Bhakail Fencing and Fighting Championships and Commons
Hosted by Barony of Bhakail - Media, PA
Event date: August 21st, 2016
Event Last Modified: August 15th, 2016
Event details
As in years past we are again at Ridley Creek State Park in Pavilion 17. There will be a potluck, please bring a dish to share, and chicken will be provided. Please contact our Potluck Coordinator, Lord Bryan, and let him know what you are bringing or if you need a suggestion of what to bring.
We will be holding the Bhakail Fencing and Heavy Weapons championships that day. Traditionally the tournaments are open to the members of Bhakail and the friends of Bhakail, you don’t have to live in Bhakail to be a Bhakail champion, you just need to be willing to serve (and wear cool regalia!).
For the heavy weapons tournament we will be starting with a multi-weapon Tavern Brawl. The winner of the brawl will receive an extra life in the tournament. The tourney itself will either be round robin or double elimination depending on how many fighters we have. It will be a matched weapons tourney with the audience deciding on the weapons form. Gauntlets WILL BE required for a lot of the fighting so be sure to bring them as well as ALL of your weapons.
For the rapier tournament this year we will be doing something a little different. The tournaments in the past couple of years have been a showcase of endurance, this year we will shift gears and focus on accuracy. The tournament will be a double elimination but there will be a twist. The only shots that will remove your opponent from the Field are shots to the head and neck. (Basically, this is a zombie tournament.) Shots to the limbs will disable the limb however, if your opponent can hit you in THE SAME limb (i.e. if you take their right leg and they then take your right leg) BOTH limbs are healed.
We are staggering the start times of the tournaments to enable the populace to watch both tournaments.
This is also the day after Thélème at Penn and we invite all who attended Thélème to join us at Commons and share their experiences of the day. Two events for the price of one! And the site fee for both? Free!
So bring your stories of Pennsic and Thélème at Penn and join us for a relaxing day watching the Championship tourneys and sharing friendship and good food.
As this is a state park alcohol is prohibited. Dogs are permitted in the park as long as they are leashed. The park is moderately accessible, there are paved paths but some gentle slopes to get to the fighting field.
The event ends at 6:00 pm but the park closes at sundown.
