Event details

WAIT!!!  Do not put your camping gear away just yet.  Why not you ask? The Barony of Iron bog, here by cordially invites one and all to join us at this year’s RIVER War event.  River War this year will be all about YOU and how much fun can you have.  Please check back often for updates as this event grows.

Activities include:

Fighting –
Friday let the fun begin with a torch light tourney (You do not have to camp to come fight)
Saturday- First I have to warn you - IF you do not know the Autocrat it has been said that he is pretty ambitious.  Get a good rest and gather your energy the fighting will go all day.  The Marshal in Charge for the day will be Sir Tanaka.  In short there will be Tourneys, Melee, and Fun.  The first lay-on will be heard at 10:30.

Youth combat will be run by Lord Hroudland starting at 1 pm.  If time allows at the end there may be time to do a short class on “So you want to be a youth fighter”.

Why should the Heavy fighters have all the fun on Friday night? Lady Katya will have a tavern open (the gym) and will share it with any brave fencer that is looking to cross swords (maybe a warm up tourney will break out).
Lord Berrick has joined the team to help bring you more fun.  What does he have in store for you?

Two hour challenge tournament:  Challenge anyone to a fight.  Winner is awarded points for victory.  You get one point per victory.  In addition, if the loser is a member of the Order of the Silver Rapier, the winner gets an additional point for a total of 2.  If the loser is a member of the Order of the Golden Rapier, the winner gets two additional points for a total of 3.  The top two scoring fencers are become team captains for the melee battles and get to choose the teams for them.  Tournament champion gets first pick of team members.

Melee battles:  Both battles will be resurrection battles.  Timing for battles will depend on ending time for the tournament, the time court begins, and however long people want to have a break between for eating and what-not.

Capture the flag.  Unlimited resurrection
Each side will need to defend their flag, which will be placed at the team's "base".  To capture the flag your team must take the flag from the opposing team's base and bring it back to your own.  The flag will be reset once captured.  RBGs will be allowed.

Bridge battle.  Limited resurrection.
Not your normal bridge battle- There will be several "bridges" between the opposing team spawn points.  Stepping off a bridge is instant death...the areas that are non-bridge will be considered "lava", and the bridges will be considered solid ground between the lava.  Downside of this:  the areas that are considered "lava" are not static and subject to movement at the whim of the marshals.  Marshals are known to be capricious creatures who may be inflicted with whimsy with no warning.  Depending on the will of the fighters, we may run this one more than once.  And there may be otters involve, seeing as how lava is the natural habitat of some of these creatures.

Archery - CLEAR DOWN RANGE-RANGE IS CLEAR –ARCHERS!  NOCK!  LOOSE!- These words will be cried throughout the day as Lord Eoin Dubh waits for the sun to set and the Barons announce who their new Baronial Champion will be.  The overall winner will become the new Iron Bog Champion providing the winner lives in Iron bog or in the lands that border Iron Bog.

Thrown Weapons- Once again the range will run by Lord Ichabod the Tall, what excitement will he design for you this year? Only time will tell and you will not truly know unless you are there to have fun.

If you wish to bring your horse(s) contact the equestrian marshal-in-charge Nuala Tallhorse prior to the event at killianel@hotmail.com.  All horses attending the event must have a current Coggins test, and horses traveling from outside New Jersey must have a current 30-day interstate health certificate, per SCA Equestrian regulations.  Equine health paperwork can be transmitted to the marshal-in-charge prior to unloading the horse from the trailer.  Sorry, no rental horses are currently available for this event.

A&S competition
Lady Valery Fitzgerald has tossed down the needle to challenge one and all to compete in this year Barony A&S Champion.  The overall winner will become the new Iron Bog Champion providing the winner lives in Iron bog or in the lands that border Iron Bog.  All Entries should honor either a single event or Iron Bog itself.  Documentations will need to answer three questions 1.  Describe your piece- Is it completed? 2.  What event does it honor or how does it honor Iron Bog? 3.  What is your favorite color?

Artisans Row- We are gathering artisans to share their knowledge; Thus far artisans row will feature a glass bead making, metal-smiths, Embroidery, Scribal, cooking, and possible more.  From 12-3 artisans working in these areas will be available to demonstrate and teach their art to people who are interested in learning more about these arts or trying something new for the first time.  This space will also provide an opportunity for the artisans themselves to gather and learn from each other.  If you would like to be included as an artisan, or if you have questions, please e-mail Lady Elysabeth Underhill (Lissa) at laralu@gmail.com

The Chancellor of Youth will be working to integrate youth activities with this artisans row.  There will also have additional age-appropriate supplies (including different size non-glass beads) for the younger children (with parental supervision) to create their own simple bracelets and necklaces.  For the tweens and teens there will be more advanced beading materials with a focus on design and learning how to make their own jewelry.  These activities are great for both boys and girls with supplies for both.  Parents of teenagers should talk to the artisans and/or youth coordinator if their teenagers are interested in learning make a glass bead.  Younger children (with parental supervision) can watch glass beads being made and have an artisan make a bead just for them.  Both the younger children and teenagers will be able to string their bead to make a necklace. For questions regarding youth participation please contact the Iron Bog Chancellor of Youth and event youth coordinator, Lady Aibhilin inghean Ui Phaidin at youth@ironbog.eastkingdom.org
