One and all are invited to attend the Barony of Settmour Swamp's 30th annual Celebration of the Thawing of the Mud.  As always, Mudthaw will feature a wide variety of activities:  tournaments in Armored Combat (The traditional Mudthaw Rattan Double Elimination Tournament ), Rapier, Youth Combat, and Thrown Weapons.  We'll also host an array of Fine Merchants.  There will be a grand Arts and Sciences competition, with the ever important sub-categories of Brewing and Baking.  After court, we invite all to dine on the delicious German feast being prepared by Lady Cassandra Matis. 

NOTE:  All combatants must troll in before they can sign up for any lists.  There will be an express check-in available on the field for combatants who pre-register.  Reserve ahead and avoid the morning lines at troll.

For the Arts and Sciences competition, in addition to the normal judging, there will be a Populace Choice, a Baron and Baroness of Settmour Swamp's choice, and an Organizer's choice.  The Brewing and Baking competitions will held concurrently with the rest of the Arts and Sciences,and will be eligible for the "choice" awards.  Entries will be accepted in the following categories for the baking competition:  period recipe, bread with spread, dessert bread, and Anything Goes.  Please include a full ingredient list for all entries.  Entries in the period recipe category must include documentation.

Our Fair and Gracious Baroness of Settmour Swamp Rhiannon de Carreg Cennen will be holding her Third annual subtlety contest.  All entries should be presented to Her Excellency at High Table before the feast for judging.

We will continue to utilize our Express Check-In process, so if you want to skip the long lines at the gate, pre-register with a SASE.

From the Garden State Parkway: 
Take exit 145 to Route 280 WEST.  Go 4.3 miles to exit 7 for Pleasant Valley Way toward Millburn/Verona.  Bear left at end of ramp (toward Millburn), turn left at Pleasant Valley Way SOUTH and go 0.4 miles to junction of Route 10/Mount Pleasant Ave.  Turn right onto Route 10/Mount Pleasant Ave.  WEST.  The site is 1.2 miles down the road on the right.

From Route 287:  Take the exit for Route 10 EAST (exit 39 from 287 South; exit 39A from 287 North).  Follow Route 10 EAST, continuing on Route 10 through the traffic circle at Eisenhower Parkway.  The site is 8.7 miles east of Route 287 on the left.

Public Transportation:  N.J.  Transit has Bus service from Newark Penn Station that travels along Route 10 in Livingston and can stop near the site.  Consult for updated information on service and schedules. 

Registration Fees

Site :  $12 per person, $5 for children (6-17), Children 5 and under are free.  A $3 non-member surcharge will be collected from those adults without proof of membership.  If you intend to use the express check-in, please send proof of membership with your reservation and a SASE for the express check in letter.  Acceptable proof of membership includes a copy of your membership card, a current Pikestaff label with your name on it, or the proof of membership letter from the SCA web site.

Children are welcome but we ask you to please supervise your children at all times.  Anyone under the age of eighteen who is not with a parent must be accompanied by an adult and must present a consent form signed by a parent which includes contact information for the parents.  If a minor does not have a blue SCA membership card then a minor waiver signed by a parent or guardian must be presented at troll.  Copies of the minor waiver form are available on-line at and will be available at the event.

Feast:  $10 per person regardless of age; Pre-reservation deadline for feast is March 12th 2010.  any seats remaining will be sold the day of the event.

Incomplete reservations will be returned.
Refunds will be available for those who are unable to attend the event.  Please contact Lady Siobhna at *before* the event to request a refund form.  Refunds will be unavailable after the event.

Reservation Refund policy: 
If, after sending in a reservation, you are unable to attend, please contact the reservations clerk before the event.  Site fees and merchant fees will be refunded after the event.  Feast fees will be refunded if we are able to resell your feast space.  Troll will close when royal court opens.  Unclaimed feast reservations will be sold off to a waiting list if there is one when troll closes.  If you plan on arriving late, please let the reservations clerk know.
