October 7, 2021 — Statement From The East Kingdom Seneschal

It has come to our attention that the trial of Luis R. Rondon has come to a conclusion. We ask that courtesy guide any conversations regarding this matter. Our focus remains on those directly and personally affected by this situation and we continue to extend our condolences to the family and friends of the victim, Ms. Deborah Waldinger.

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Thursday, October 7, 2021, Luis R. Rondon, 50 of New Windsor, was convicted and found guilty by a jury in New York’s Orange County Court. The Society Seneschal issued an expulsion from the Society to Luis R. Rondon, known in the Society as Luis de Castille, on October 12th, 2019.

The Society for Creative Anachronism and its branches take the safety of its members and participants very seriously. There are rules and procedures in place supporting that in every aspect and activity at SCA events and official practices and meetings.

All participants are required to obey modern law and the rules of the SCA as set forth in the Governing Documents, officers’ policies, and Kingdom and Principality law. Any activity that violates modern law at any level, the Governing Documents of the SCA, Inc., Kingdom Law, and/or Principality Laws is prohibited at an SCA event.

As participants in the SCA are required to obey modern law, and violations of modern law should be reported to the appropriate authorities. The SCA, Inc. can and does expel individuals from participation in the SCA as a result of failure to obey modern and Society laws.
