Event details

Their Excellencies Jonathan and Teresa and the populace of Settmour Swamp invite the Known World to help celebrate the annual thawing of the mud this year with North African flare.

Please join us on March 30th at the Ss Nicholas, Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Roseland, NJ, as we gather to enjoy much that our society has to offer.  This year the Barony of Settmour Swamp is honored to host Crown’s Arts and Sciences competition at Mudthaw!  See the best A & S the kingdom has to offer, as well as tournaments of martial skill.  Then, after Kingdom and Baronial court, we shall feast!

**Please note there will be no day board served at this event.

There will be sumptuous North African fare prepared by Myrunn Inn Irska.

  • Our site is once again the Greek Orthodox Church, and they have kindly asked that we be respectful of their facility and beliefs.

  • There will be absolutely no martial activities of any sort inside the building.

  • We have also been asked not to have any open flames in the building.

  • The sites main halls have wood “gym” floors; please do not wear footwear that could damage the floor.

  • The site is discretely damp.  While alcohol is permitted, please try to use period containers.

  • The site is handicapped accessible.

  • We would like to continue to build a lasting relationship with this site by respecting their wishes.

Rules, requirements, and deadlines for the King's and Queen's Arts & Science Competition are as followed:

We are asking that entrants review all of the material on this website about the competition.  Please take your time to review before entering.

    https://moas.eastkingdom.org/cms/?page_id=607

    About the Competition:

Those considering entering are advised that this is a high-level competition where the focus is on picking the kingdom arts and sciences champions.  The judging is rigorous, and entrants are expected to be familiar with the kingdom A&S rubric, which will be used to assess entries.  The duties of the champions include representing the Crown at events and participating in the Pennsic A&S War Point.

    Important Information:

    * Advanced submission of documentation will be required of competition entrants due to judging time constraints at the event.

If anyone is not able to make those commitments or does not wish to serve as champion, we encourage them instead to sign up to display at the event.  Display spaces will be available on a first come first serve basis, and feedback will be available to those displaying.

    About Judging:

For this competition to be successful, we need many people to volunteer their time to judge!  If you are interested in judging, please complete the judging registration form.  Anyone who is reasonably experienced with their field and with judging may be qualified to judge.  We welcome as many knowledgeable judges as possible.

Please note that all judges will be asked to read entrant documentation in advance of the competition.  There is also a morning judging orientation session that all judges should plan to attend.

In addition, we are offering individuals who would like to learn more about judging the opportunity to “shadow” a judging team during the K&Q’s A&S competition.

    Judges Registration:

    About A&S Consultation Tables:

The Arts and Sciences Consultation Tables are intended to provide feedback and/or mock scoring to artisans regarding current (or proposed) projects.  The consulting judges will also familiarize artisans with the rubric designed for Arts and Sciences competitions not only at the Kingdom level, but also at local Arts and Sciences competitions.  The Arts and Sciences rubric is the basis for mock scoring, which will help artisans understand how judging is performed at competitions.  Our goal as consulting judges is to provide guidance which will be useful to those considering entering future competitions, without overwhelming anyone.
