Event details

The tournament season begins in Settmour Swamp.  Duke Brennan and Duchess Caoilfhionn again present their Ducal Challenges.  This event will feature prize tournaments for both armored and rapier combatants.  Each combatant is asked to donate a prize to the pool showcasing their art or a piece of art they have commissioned.
The tournaments will be fought in 4 round robin pools, with each pool advancing 4 combatants.  The top 16 combatants will then fight a double elimination tournament down to the semifinals.  The finals will be fought with rotating weapons forms.

The winner of the tournament will have first pick of the prizes for that tournament.  The second prize pick will go to the artist/sponsor of the first prize picked.  Then, the second finalist in the tournament will pick, and so on.  Those combatants wishing to sponsor an artist (as opposed to make their own prize entry) may connect on the FB page for the event:  https://www.facebook.com/events/1393358880731261/ or by emailing Brennan.

In addition to the martial activities, we have plenty for the Arts & Sciences.  Their Excellencies Settmour Swamp will hold a competition to select the Barony's new A&S Champion.  Also, there will be a youth A&S point run by Mistress Naomi bat Avraham.  Details on both are forthcoming.

SETTMOUR SWAMP BARONIAL A&S CHAMPION COMPETITION

Baroness Teresa and Baron Jonathan, Their Excellencies Settmour Swamp, are summoning all artisans to bring forth creations that are both inspirational and educational to the populace.  Their Excellencies will choose the new Baronial Arts and Sciences Champion among those who answer their call.

For the first time, the A&S Baronial Championship is being hosted by Duke Brennan and Duchess Caoilfhionn.  This year’s tournament is organized by Lady Aurelia Alfaiata d’Alcaçova and seeks to honor Their Graces who have so kindly agreed to host the competition.

To celebrate the alliance of the Mermaid and the Wolf, the theme for this year's championship will be Trade and Commerce:  From Sea to Mountain.  The entries for this competition shall be merchandise that would be transported from a seaport on a major trade route to the inland mountains, in order to be sold or traded for goods in the countryside.  Although following the theme is not a requirement, doing so will count towards the final score.  Research papers will also be accepted as entries.  Alcoholic entries are NOT allowed as per site rules.

A panel of judges will evaluate the entries by the following criteria:  documentation, authenticity, complexity, workmanship, and aesthetic value.  The selected winner will be named Settmour Swamp Arts and Sciences Champion for the following year, and will be required to run next year’s competition.

The judging will follow the guidelines from the current K&Q A&S rubric.  In the documentation, we ask that you address the use of your item in pre-17th century society, if and how your methods differ from period practices, the materials used and the necessary substitutions if applicable, any difficulties encountered, and what lessons can be transmitted to artisans focused on the same discipline.

In addition to the judged competition, all those in attendance are invited to vote on their favorite entry and help an artisan receive the prize in the Populace Choice category.

If your entry is comprised of a research paper, it should be submitted electronically by September 1, 2017 to aurelia.alfaiata@gmail.com to allow for adequate review time by the judges.

You are responsible for your entry.  The set-up time starts at 11am, with judging and viewing occurring from 12 to 2pm.  Please, pick up your items at 2pm.

If you have any questions, please contact Aurelia at aurelia.alfaiata@gmail.com.
