Event details

As the drums of war come to a lesser beat, some of the warriors find themselves a little restless as stories of the previous battles are told.  The more the mugs are replenished, the larger and longer the stories get.  Before you know it warriors are starting to make up reasons to have a good time.  All they need is a place to play.

The Baroness Creatura Christi of Oaks, Barony of Iron Bog would like to invite one and all to River War for a weekend full of good times with family and friends.

As always, we are on a quest to have fun for all.  There shall be marshal activities, archery, thrown weapons, equestrian, A&S- including this year the Metalsmith Symposium,Athena's Thimble and the Baronial A&S competition, camping, shopping/bartering, and of course the food.  The only thing that it is missing is you and your family.

Friday night please join us for the River War Lounge.  The Lounge will be open with snacks, drinks, games, and music.  Come and enjoy a tavern atmosphere.  Come and share your favorite game, song, story, and enjoy our company.

Marshal activities:

Heavy:
Friday night:  Torch light tourney

Saturday:  We start the day off with four single elimination weapons tourneys.  Followed by melee scenarios:  Beach Breach, Bridge Battle, Field Battle, Town and/or Castle Battle.
Each combat is asked to bring a small item to fill the treasure chest - which will be award to the winning team!

Saturday evening:  The Honors Auction Tourney.  Have you not had enough combat for the day? Good!  Prepare arms for an entertaining charity tournament.  You, the fighter, will be auctioned to fight as some lucky gentle's champion for the evening.  The money raised will go towards helping make a future Iron Bog event free!

If there is time and interest, we have a melee game prepared:  “ROMEO MUST DIE!” How long can you and your kin keep your cousin alive, when a small army of rabble is out to kill him?

Sunday (yes Sunday):  If there is any interest on Sunday, any remaining rapier fighters are welcome to enjoy an historical-fencing round-table shortly after breakfast, where we can discuss items of interest to the SCA historical swordfighting community.

***There is one important change:  we will not be fencing in our usual area per sa (directly by the pavilions), due to the space necessary for the Metalsmith’s Symposium.  Feel free to bring along any portable shade you have we are working on have ample shade up but you will need chairs.  Any questions, please feel free to contact me at mikewgoodman@gmail.com Lorenzo Gorla- Rapier Marshal in Charge

Archery and Thrown weapons:  marshals will be on hand to bring you interesting and unique targets.  There are no scheduled tournaments at this time but you never know what the marshals will come up with on the spot.

Arts and Sciences:

Iron Bog is honored to host this year’s Metalsmith’s Symposium hosting many artisans demonstrating and teaching their skills.  The awesome Metalsmith’s library will also be here!  The perfect opportunity to peruse information on many subjects relating to metalsmithing.

In addition, we will have our annual Artisan' Row.  Artisans will be available to demonstrate and teach their art as well as have the opportunity to gather and learn from each other.  We will also be working to integrate youth activities with the Artisans' Row depending on the activity and age of the youth.  If you would like to be included as an artisan or if you have questions, please email Lady Aibhilin inghean Ui Phaidin (Erica Janowitz), Metalsmiths’ Symposium 15 site liaison &Artisans' Row and Youth Coordinator at erislp@gmail.com.

Her Excellency will be holding a competition to find the new Baronial A&S Champion.  The current Baronial Champion, Lady Aibhilin inghean Ui Phaidin, is calling for gentles in the Barony of Iron Bog or those from lands that border Iron Bog to come and share the art and/or science that inspires them and gives them joy.  All levels of skills are welcome, as are entries from different crafts and time periods.  Entries may be projects in process and do not need to be submitted prior to the event.  Kingdom level documentation is not needed, though documentation that shares the artisans’ knowledge regarding their entry and its place in period is recommended.  Judging by Baroness Creature, available past Barons and Baronesses, and the current champion will commence at 3:00pm Saturday.  Again, please contact Lady Aibhilin with any questions (erislp@gmail.com).

Athena's Thimble Display and Expert panel will be hosting an embroidery display.  All are welcome to bring items by 12:30.  At 1:00 there will be the presentation of Couched and Laid work embroidery for expert ranking for Athena's Thimble (www.athenasthimble.com).  Observers are welcome during the panel, however the members of the guild making up the panel will have priority for seating and questions.  After the presentation, while the panel is deliberating, the presenter will be happy to answer questions and discuss the form with all interested.  Following the Expert panel, at approximately 2:30, there will be a regular guild paneling.

MERCHANTS...  BARTERING and what not ----

This year the merchant area will be “The Iron Bog Flea Market”.  Along with our usual merchants, we will provide a space for all gentles to bring their overstock SCA wares.  If you have anything you would like to sell or trade, feel free to bring it along.  Thanks to several people we will be able to provide a shaded area setting up in the large field between the equestrian and heavy fighting area, not too far from the archery and thrown weapons.  If you would like to participate please send a note to the Merchant coordinator, Lady Marion ferch Llewellyn at ladymarion2@excite.com And if you can please bring tables and chairs.
