On m'envoya étudié à l'Abbaye du Bec-Hellouin dont le prieur Lanfranc de Pavie deviendra évêque de Canterbury. Lors de la campagne de Bretagne, nous avons vu un groupe d'homme qui parlait un langue étrangère, leurs cheveux long et leurs moustaches étaient la risé de mes compagnons. Bientôt nous avons appris qu'il sagissait d'Harold Godwinson, compte d'Essex et ses hommes de compagnies, des saxons. Les moqueries ont tot fait place au respect. Dans un élan de courage Harold sauva d'une mort certaine deux hommes de la suite de notre bon Duc.
