Event Last Modified: September 6th, 2004
Ever wanted to travel down the darker side of medieval life? Be a robber, a scoundrel or a pickpocket? Is your inner self a sheep-stealing haggis-eating no account that closes down the bars every single night? Have you wanted to take over a small country, or be a Machiavelli in training? Have you no morals? Well, THIS is the event for you. The Barony of Carolingia presents Bearbaiting, Cockfighting and Shakespeare! A day of enjoying good old fashion sins like avarice, lust, pride and envy. It is a day of letting your hair down and wading into the darkest corners of Elizabethan England.
How do we propose that? Simple. Someone put Nataliia in charge.
Remember the good old fashioned events where you could go and find just about everything fun in the society available. You wish to discuss politics, the latest fashions, the liaisons of the royalty and not so royalty? Schmoozing is encouraged heartedly. There will be fighting and fencing to quench the lusts of those of a martial nature in the theme of the day. There will be dancing, a wonderful sin all by itself. There will be gaming where the wicked and the not so wicked can discover the joys of besting another in the matches of minds. There will be food. Oh will there be food. Did someone say gluttony? And to cap off the evening, there will be a play. Shakespeare's “MacBeth” will be presented by the Carolingian Mummers to cap off all that is the dark side of human nature. The Guilds of Carolingia will be presenting examples of what they do best. Other enjoyable pastimes both light and dark are encouraged, just contact the steward.
And how much do you think this event will cost you? We are not greedy by any means! The cost for the day is $12.00 which includes the event, the play, and a large opulent dayboard (for those of you at King's and Queen' Fencing Champions last year, you'll know what I mean). Children under 5 are free, children 6-18 are $5.00. Family rates are available upon request. Gate opens at 10:30 a.m. and the site closes at 7:00 p.m. All those arriving early or staying late will be conscripted as peasants and servants to the steward to use as she wishes. The steward is Mistress Nataliia Anastasiia Evgenova (M.C. Toscano, 93 Forest Street, Peabody, MA 01960), 978-979-0932, call before 9 p.m. The event will take place on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at the Newton North High School, at 360 Lowell Street, Newton, MA. The non-member surcharge will be charged, and will be handled at the door. Send reservations to Lady Eleanor Catlyng (Lisa Goldthwaite-Wright) at 579 Winter Street, Framingham, MA 01702. Please mark “Shakespeare” on the envelope. Please make checks payable to SCA, Inc. – Barony of Carolingia. The only reservation is a paid reservation, so sayeth my seneschal.
