From the southern reaches of the great Laurel Kingdom of the East comes a voice. A voice rich with the memories of those who have been a part of its history. A voice wise with its experiences, some sad, some joyous. A voice weighted with the passing of time, yet anticipating its future. A voice that calls out to the Kingdom, to those who have been its friends and to those it has yet to meet, and says, “Hey, cool, twenty years old and we haven't blown ourselves up yet! Let's have a party!”
Join us in celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Founding of the Shire of Iron Bog on the 15th of November, 2003, at Ferrell Volunteer Fire Company in Ferrell, NJ. The site opens at 11 AM and closes at 9 PM.
The Event Steward is Lady Dorathia Mychell. She can be reached at doodlecrumb@comcast.net, at home at 856-784-6738, or by cell at 856-217-3174.
Merchants are more than welcome to attend and ply their wares. We ask only that in addition to paying the entrance fee to the event, an item be donated for auction. Merchants must contact the Steward before the event.
Their Majesties Balfar and Luna, though busy attending business in another part of the Kingdom, have declared that displays of personal heraldry are a joy to Their hearts. To this end, we would strongly encourage our guests to bring their banners to proclaim their presence in the hall.
During the day, we'll be showcasing the arts with an Exhibition open to all. We especially encourage items produced with or made from iron – needlework, calligraphy, armour, and the like - and displays relevant to Iron Bog's past and future.
The Honorable Lord Justinian Timagenes will be teaching classes in dance during the day, in preparation for the evening's Ball. Baroness Katherine Barr will be leading a discussion of the SCA and its practices and etiquette, intended especially for newcomers. The Cattail Pursuivant, Lord Eldrich Gaiman, will be offering heraldic consulting to those who desire it. We also plan to offer games of chance and skill for those so inclined.
However, this event is not only for those of an artistic inclination. There will be martial activities as well. Lord Sterling dela Rosa wishes to encourage the heavy-weapons fighters to join together on the tourney field for the last chance to fight at an event before the 100-Minutes War.
During the day, there will be a silent auction of items collected by and donated to the Shire.
The cooks will set out a light side-board during the day. In the late afternoon, there will be a magnificent feast of rare delicacies and favorite Iron Bog dishes through the years, prepared by Lady Grainne ni Bhraonáin and the renowned Iron Bog Cooks' Guild. We are planning on serving a few vegetarian dishes, but questions regarding special dietary concerns should be directed to the Steward.
Finally, we will dance away the evening to the music of the ever-popular Bhakaili Branslers.
Please note that we are not planning any activities specifically for children, but they are otherwise welcome to attend with their parents and to participate in the day's activities.
The cost for the event, for adults, is $17 if staying for feast, $9 for the day. Youth aged 12-17 will be charged $16 if eating feast or $8 for the day. Children under age 12 are $8 with feast, $4 without. Babes-in-arms are free. Please remember that the Non-Member Surcharge is in effect. A blue card must be presented at the door for every adult attending or there will be a $3 surcharge. There will be no exceptions.
