“…I have sent him this sword to signify that I wish to hold a tourney and bouhort of arms against him, in the presence of ladies and damsels, and many others, on the day and time named, and in a place suitable and convenient for this.” –King René's Tournament Book

Iron Bog Archery Championship
Baroness Drueta will observe the accuracy and grace of competing archers in the next baronial archery championship. Master Arden, baronial archery champion, will determine a challenge to find his worthy successor.
Archery Championship Format: Attack on the Keep!
During a grand festival at the keep of our Baroness, the enemy has hired a mercenary army to take advantage of our celebrations to attack us unprepared! Quick thinking allowed us to hole ourselves up in the keep before their forces could enter, but now they appear to be surrounding the keep, and we have to do our best to help in the defense.
Round One
There is a secret back entrance to the Keep, and we need to get word quickly to our fighting men and allies before the enemy has surrounded us. Unfortunately, the enemy scouts have laid out a series of traps along the route, anticipating our action. We need to eliminate all the traps so that a messenger rider can speed down the path before the escape is cut off.
SHOOT - 6-8 ground targets. Archers will get arrows=targets+2; points scored for hitting each target, plus additional points for remaining arrows. Untimed.
Round Two
The enemy has seen our messenger escape, and realizes they need to re-organize. There are three approach roads to the Keep, and they are sending messengers to their outriders to block off the approaches. We must stop these messages from being delivered if we are get any assistance. Shoot down the messenger birds before they are able to fly off with their messages.
SHOOT - Functionally a skeet shoot - three targets will be shot by mini-catapult from the shooting line. Archers need to strike the target before it hits the ground. Targets will be released at 10-second intervals. Points scored for each "bird" hit.
Round Three
The assault on the keep has begun. There is a broad moat around the keep, and the enemy have set up a siege tower on the far side and are attempting to swing over the moat to attack the keep. We must kill them as they come!
SHOOT - Swinging target timed shoot. 30 seconds, as many arrows as will, as many hits on the large pendulum target as possible. Target will be set up as a high standing pole with large "ball" swinging. Remote release. Points for each hit on the "ball".
Round Four
The enemy has realized that our archers are a threat, so they have positioned their arbalesters behind shield walls to take us out. As the arbalesters pop up to shoot, we must shoot them first and eliminate them.
SHOOT - "Pop-up" target behind wooden wall. Three targets will each pop up two or three times. Shooters need to hit the targets. The goal is to take out all three. Points for each target struck.
Round Five
A group of our fighters attempted to come to our aid, but unfortunately were captured on the road! Our particularly evil enemies have lined them up to hang them to demoralize us and get us to surrender. Shoot the nooses (without hitting the fighters) to free them so they can escape to our keep!
SHOOT - Wand shoot - three wands positioned above three figures. Hitting the wand scores points. Hitting the fighter subtracts points. Six arrows untimed.
Round Six
The enemy has set up a catapult to break down our walls. We need to either destroy the catapult, or their engineer spotter!
SHOOT - Long-distance shoot. Catapult placed at 70 paces, engineer at 100 paces. Six arrows untimed. Points for each hit on either.
Round Seven
Sappers have snuck up the base of the corner tower. Unfortunately they have constructed a hood such that we can't shoot down on them from the top of the wall. However, there is an arrow loop at the tower base. Kill them before they can damage the tower!
SHOOT - Through arrow loop, take out the two (or three) sappers. Six arrows untimed. Points for each hit on the sappers.
Round Eight
We have managed to hold out long enough, and our re-enforcements arrive. They need to battle their way to the keep to bring arms so that we may counter attack. Help them fight their way through the foes!
SHOOT - Friend/foe shoot - six arrows untimed - points for each enemy hit, subtract points for each friend hit.
Round Nine
Our friends and fighters are now armed and ready to counter charge against the foe! Break the enemy lines so that their charge is successful!
SHOOT - Simple speed shoot - take out as many of the enemy in 30 seconds as you can. Multiple hits on same target permitted if all targets have been struck. Points for each target struck.
Round Ten
Our fighters have swept through the field and pursue the enemy when suddenly behind them appears the mercenary captain and his body guards! They attempt to race into the castle and steal the baroness for ransom in a last-ditch effort to collect something from this venture. Take out the body guards, and then kill the captain.
SHOOT - Three arrow loops will be set up at different positions. The two outer loops must be shot through to take out the body guards. The center loop will take out the captain. Any hits on the body guards will "take them out." The captain, however, must be a kill shot to be scored. This is a timed shoot of one minute.
Overall winner is the archer who scored the most points.
New Champion is Boggie or Bog-friend with highest points.
A&S Heraldry Display
An A&S heraldry display, held in the Lobby (with spillover into the Court Hall as needed), will honor His Grace's interest in pageantry. The heraldry may be personal, or for the Shire, Barony, and/or Kingdom. Multiple entries are encouraged. Please contact the autocrat if you have a request for the display of your entries.
A&S Tabard Design Contest
Be a part of Iron Bog History! Baroness Drueta has issued a challenge to one and all: create a new heraldic design for the brave fighters and fencers of the Barony to wear with pride. Both tabard and baldric designs are welcomed and encouraged. Entries may simply be sketches or they may be actual garb. The heraldry must be blazonable!
Heraldic Consulting Table
A heraldic consulting table will be open again this year in the lobby. Bring all your questions on period names and armory, or on the submissions process.
Children's Activities
Beginning around 2 pm, special-needs girl scouts will be on site, enjoying children's activities and the spectacle of period combat. Please help contribute to their fun!
Children's activities will be held in two sessions. The first session, which will run from 11:00 to 12:30, will allow for some indoor play time with a variety of games such as mancala, backgammon, Uno, and chess. There will also be a child-sized catapult with castle blocks and knight and pirate figures. The afternoon session, which will run from 2:00 to 4:00, will include a girl scout troop that is visiting our event. In the afternoon we will have tours for our children and the girl scouts of various arts and sciences activities (spinning, illumination, dance) and fighting activities (heavy fighting, fencing, archery). All the children will have opportunities to try their hand at different arts and science activities such as illumination, heraldry/making device, dancing, and making crowns.
