EK Siege U. - Build an Arbalest 101 **UPDATED**

(At-a-Glance Event Information)

Friday, June 17th, 2005 to Sunday, June 19th, 2005

Hosted by Barony of Stonemarche - Derry, NH

Event Last Modified: March 1st, 2005

Have you been looking at the fighting field and wishing you could be part of the action? Ever looked longingly at those large engines on the field as they destroy their target? Do you want to have your very own siege engine so you can aim, fire and hit targets (and not get in trouble)? Well, this could be the place for you!

At the East Kingdom Siege University we are producing the finest siege engineers in the known world!  We are currently offering a weekend long class for the beginner and intermediate siege engineer.  There is no prior siege experience necessary for this class.  This is however, a group project.  Please bring other interested people with you, up to five per group.  We are looking for a minimum of 4 groups and a maximum of 10 to build one engine each.  Since we will be working with power tools, group members must be 16 or older.

We will be starting the weekend out on Friday night by going over the siege rules and the engine we will be building.  On Saturday each group will start building their arbalest following the newest plans by Docmo Kincain.  Saturday night will cover string making and bolt building.  Sunday each group will finish up any fabrication and put their engine together.  In the afternoon we will be firing the engines and going over some firing scenarios and practice techniques.  Make sure when you pack for the weekend, you leave enough room in your vehicle to take your engine with you!  Don't worry, they pack down small enough to fit in the trunk of most average sized cars.  Not only will you be leaving with a working arbalest, but also the material you need to make more strings including a jig, the book you used to make your arbalest, materials for upkeep, bolts, complete working knowledge of your engine and, if you didn't have one before, a siege qual card.

We are asking that participants bring comfortable, close fitting cloths for the weekend, not garb.  The site fee includes 6 meals (partially because of the tight schedule), so you only need to bring basic camping gear.  If you have questions about the meals, please contact the autocrat.

The per person price is $35.00 not including NMS, and you must pre-register.  The materials fee for each engine is $250.00 and includes everything to make your arbalest and all the materials you will be taking home with you.

Site Info: This is a private residence, please treat it well.  This site is damp, but we will be using power tools.  We reserve the right to restrict the use of any tools.
