What is the Society for Creative Anachronism?
The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an organization dedicated to recreating aspects of life from pre-Seventeenth Century Europe. The SCA was founded in 1966 in Berkeley, California, and since then has grown to an international organization, with members and local groups located around the world.What is the East Kingdom?
Within the context of the SCA, the world is divided up into 18 Kingdoms. The East Kingdom encompasses Delaware, New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, Eastern New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine in the United States; and Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland in Canada.What is a Chatelaine?
A Chatelaine (also known as Chatelain or Castellan) is the officer in charge of newcomers. The Chatelaine helps newcomers to find activities that interest them, attend their first event, acquire information and equipment, and generally helps in any way needed.How do I get started in the SCA?
The best way to get started in the SCA is to get in touch with your local group, and your local Chatelaine. To find your local group, visit the branch locator page of the East Kingdom website. Submitting your zipcode on this page will return the name of your local group and their website. You can then try contacting your group through their website, or you can refer to the Roster of East Kingdom Chatelaines to obtain contact information for your local Chatelaine.When you contact your local Chatelaine, let them know what it is about the SCA that interests you. They will then be able to help you find activities that reflect those interests.
