The Barony of Settmour Swamp will celebrate the Thirty Third Quest for Wit & Wisdom. This year QUEST will have a Spanish theme.  "The QUEST" by Lord Galen, is titled "Man of La Munchkin", featuring Don Quixote.  A delicious Spanish feast will be prepared by Lady Charis.

QUEST is Settmour Swamp's local camping event and includes competitions to determine the Barony’s champions for heavy weapons fighting, rapier combat, thrown weapons, arts and sciences (A&S) and archery.  There is also an Artisan's row (live displays and hands-on demos), a bardic circle and of course "the QUEST".  This year Lord Galen has designed a delightful Quest featuring Don Quixote.

Baron Jonathan Miles and Baroness Teresa Ana Perez, welcome all to join in our weekend-long celebration.  Baroness Teresa and Baron Jonathan were invested as the new Baroness and Baron of Settmour Swamp at Mudthaw, on March 25.

CHILDREN are most welcome, but please supervise your children at all times.  Anyone under the age of eighteen must be accompanied to the event by a parent or legal guardian.  The SCA youth waiver policy will be enforced.

POND:  There is a pond on site, this is not for swimming.

PETS are permitted, and must be kept on a leash at all times.  Certain areas will be off limits to pets.

ALCOHOL POLICY:  No alcoholic beverages may be brought on site.  There will be a site-run bar available, and open until 2:00am.  This policy will be strictly enforced by event staff. Anyone in violation of this policy will be removed from the site.  See below for the Brewing Contest.

ARTISANS ROW:  Offered by TBD
Artisan's Row includes live displays and hands-on demonstrations.  The Artisan’s Row is a particularly wonderful opportunity for Arts and Sciences that are too messy or time-consuming for usual events.  We are especially interested in woodworkers, blacksmiths, dyers, stone carvers, potters and any artisan who would avail themselves of a long weekend out of doors.  Our village-like atmosphere will allow you to demonstrate, teach, and peddle your wares.  Last year we had woodworking, weaving, blacksmithing, cooking and other displays.

ARCHERY TOURNAMENT:  Offered by Lord Ciaran ua Meic Thire (the Barony’s current archery champion). Their Excellencies will be holding a tournament to choose their next Champion.  Details to follow.

HEAVY WEAPONS TOURNAMENT:  Offered by Lord Arne Ulrichsson (the Barony’s current heavy weapons champion).  Their Excellencies will be holding a tournament to choose their next Champion.  Details to follow.

THROWN WEAPONS TOURNAMENT:  Offered by Lord Kin Ryu Arashi (the Barony’s current thrown weapons champion).  Their Excellencies will be holding a tournament to choose their next Champion.  Details to follow.

RAPIER TOURNAMENT:  Offered by Lord Brendan Firebow (the Barony’s current Rapier champion).  Their Excellencies will be holding a tournament to choose their next Champion.  Details to follow.

ARTS and SCIENCES COMPETITION:  Offered by Aurelia Alfaiata d'Alcáçova na' Bheithir (the Barony’s current A&S champion).  Their Excellencies will be holding a competition to choose their next Champion.  Details to follow

We will be holding two arts and sciences competitions:
1.  Populace Choice
2.  Baronial Champion
All entries for both of these competitions must fall within the years 400-1600 CE.

A&S Populace Choice:  Each member of the Populace attending the event may take a number of beads, depending on office held and baronial awards received.  Members of the Populace are free to distribute their beads in whatever manner they wish.  The artisan who receives the most beads will be the Populace Choice winner.

A&S Baronial Champion:  All entries will be judged by Lord Jonathan and Lady Teresa, the Baronial Heirs of Settmour Swamp; Mistress Caterina Giaocchini, Settmour Swamp Minister of Arts and Sciences; and Aurelia Alfaiata d'Alcáçova na' Bheithir, current Settmour Swamp Arts and Sciences Champion.

The following questions (preliminary and subject to change) will be used to evaluate each artisan.  The answers may be given verbally or in writing:
1. WHAT is your entry?
2. WHEN did the entry come from?
3. WHERE did you get the idea to make the entry?
4. HOW did you make the entry?
5. WHY did you use the materials and methods described in HOW?
6. What sources, primary and otherwise, did you use to verify the historicity of the entry?
7. Did you accomplish what you initially set out to do?
8. What problems did you run into along the way and how did you solve them?
9. What role did creativity play in your project?
10. If you did it again, how would you change it? Are there next steps you are planning?


YOUTH FIGHTING:  Offered by TBD.  Details to follow.

BREWING CONTEST:  Offered by TBD.  All brewing contest entries are to be presented to Troll upon arrival on site and must be kept behind the bar until the contest.  Each bottle needs to be accompanied by the name of the item, the category (beer, wine, mead, cordial) and the name of the maker of said libation. 
Note:  Any unconsumed brewing entries must be removed from the site or they may be discarded after the competition.

BARDIC CIRCLE:  Offered by TBD (our Baronial Bardic champion will be determined at BGI).
Tell us a tale, about your best SCA experience, or recite medieval verse, or sing songs, or what have you.

HURLEY GAME:  Offered by Lord Donnan Fitzgerald a' Bheithir.
Hurley will happen!  Gather at the central field after the QUEST finishes on Sunday to warm up and form teams.  The Hurley game will begin around 3:30, after the QUEST.

SILENT AUCTION:  Offered by TBD
Donated items will be offered for auction.  Please bring items to contribute to the auction.  Donations will go to the Barony.

THE QUEST:  "Man of La Munchkin" (featuring Don Quixote) by Lord Galen MacByrne

"The QUEST" is a scavenger hunt and an obstacle course and a mystery to be solved all combined in an adventure!  If you have never participated in "The QUEST", this is the year to try it.  Lord Galen is a wizard at designing and setting up obstacles.

Each team of questers will contain either three adults or three children.  Children’s teams shall be accompanied by a parent.


COURT:  Our Baronial Heirs, Lord Jonathan and Lady Teresa, will hold Court and present the winners of the tournaments, contests and the Quest.  Join our new Baron and Baroness at their first court at a full event.

PENNSIC SWAMP CAMP MEETING:
Immediately following Court, gather near the Pavilion for the Pennsic Swamp Camp meeting.  Lady Vika and/or Baroness Elizabeth (our much beloved Pennsic camp mommies) will organize this meeting and discuss the preliminary plans for the Settmour Swamp encampment at Pennsic War.

The camping area will be open from 4PM Friday until 11:30am Monday. Everyone must be off site by 11:30am or they will be thanked as they are put to work as part of the Clean-up crew.
