|Mudthaw ||Event date: March 25th, 2017|
|Hosted by Barony of Settmour Swamp - Roseland, NJ||Event Last Modified: February 22nd, 2017|
|As winter turns to spring, all are invited to attend the annual celebration of the Thawing of the Mud and celebrate with the Barony of Settmour Swamp as their Excellencies, Erec and Jehannine, Baron and Baroness of Settmour Swamp, retire and Lady Teresa Ana Perez and Lord Jonathan Miles are invested as their heirs.|
Please join us on March 25th at the Ss Nicholas, Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Roseland, NJ, as we gather to enjoy much that our society has to offer. There will be tournaments of martial skill; the arts and sciences will be celebrated and demonstrated; we will gather for court where the Barony’s new Baron and Baroness will be invested; and we shall conclude our day's celebrations with a sumptuous feast prepared by Yagyu no Kagetoki .
Our site is once again the Greek Orthodox Church, and they have kindly asked that we be respectful of their facility and beliefs.
There will be absolutely no martial activities of any sort inside the building.
We have also been asked not to have any open flames in the building.
The sites main halls have wood “gym” floors; please do not wear foot-ware that could damage the floor.
Please help us continue to build a good and long lasting relationship with this site by respecting their wishes.
The site is discretely damp. While alcohol is permitted, please try to use period containers.
The site is handicapped accessible.
**Martial Activity details are being added as they become available.**
Please note that the only space we have for any of the tournaments is on asphalt in a section of the parking lot. Please plan appropriate footwear. Unfortunately, due to space considerations at our new site, we will not be able to have thrown weapons or archery.
The armored combat tournament will be fought in the traditional Mudthaw double elimination format. The tournament will begin promptly at 12:30pm. Check in closes at 11:30am. Inspections close at 11:45am. If you need an authorization, please get the paperwork from the MoL at check in, and let a marshal know as soon as you can. Authorizations will not be fought after 12 Noon, unless there is time after the tourney has completed. Please contact Ögurr Aðalbrandarson, who is the Barony's Knight Marshal, at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
There will also be tournaments for rapier combat. Cut & Thrust Tournament will begin at 12:30pm, Heavy Rapier/Pensic Camps Qualifier will begin at 1:15pm and Pensic Rapier Melee Qualifier will begin at 3pm.
Youth combat will be taking place adjacent to the other martial activities. We will begin at 12:30pm with one-on-one rounds and then move on to small melees or a tournament depending on our numbers. A limited supply of loaner gear will be available, so any newcomers between the ages of 6 and 16 can suit up and give it a try. Please contact Mathghamhain Ua Ruadháin at email@example.com, who will be the marshal in charge at the event, if you have any questions.
All Marshal Activities will end at 3:30pm
For those more inclined to the Arts and Sciences, we are very excited to once again host an Artisans Village. We hope that many of you will be able to come to the hall and not only participate in the village but walk away with a new skill or craft that you would like to pursue. In past years participants have been able to sample: Calligraphy and Illumination, Embroidery, Spinning, Weaving, Lampwork, Wire work, Lucet, Period music and much more.
** A list of offerings will be posted as teachers are finalized **
Should you have any questions or would like to participate as a teacher in Artisans Village please reach out to Elizabeth firstname.lastname@example.org or Aziza email@example.com
This year we are going with the theme of Byzantium, (it's fine if your work does not fall within that theme. Come show off your talents, up your game, and get constructive comments by entering your work in the A&S Competition. If you're just looking to put your work out there for all to see, place your work at the A&S Display. Entrants to the A&S Competition shall place themselves into one of three groupings based on experience and knowledge: Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert. Beginner is a first attempt at something; Intermediate is something that's been done for a bit and has some knowledge on the subject. Expert has this stuff down. The competition will be judged on the following criteria: DOCUMENTATION, AUTHENTICITY, COMPLEXITY, WORKMANSHIP, and AESTHETIC VALUE.
You are responsible for your entry and/or display. Please pick up your entries and displays at 3:00.
