|Shire Wars 4: Anglo-Saxon Harvest ||Event date: October 10th, 2014 - October 12th, 2014|
|Hosted by Shire of Montevale - Fort Littleton, PA||Event Last Modified: July 19th, 2014|
|It is October, 1064 in England's capital city, Wintanceastre (modern Winchester) and King Edward has been on the throne for 19 years. Speculation spreads among the wealthy and powerful about what went on when Harold Godwinson was shipwrecked on the Normandy coast earlier this year. For the majority of Anglo-Saxons though, it is the end of Sommer and preparations for Winter are well underway. |
The southwestern Shires of the Kingdom (Montevale, Blak Rose, Owlsherst, Hartshorn-dale and the incipient Shire of Archer's Forde) invite you to join them in celebrating an Anglo-Saxon Harvest with deeds of skill and honor on the rattan and rapier list fields, at the archery and thrown weapons ranges, and in the Great Hall where displays of the arts and sciences (including brewing) can be found. There will be music, dancing, riddle games, and bardic songs and tales of Anglo-Saxon glories of the past.
Marshal activities: rattan fighting, rapier fighting, youth fighting, archery, and thrown weapons.
A&S: display, competition, special challenge, brewing competition (all with an Anglo-Saxon theme)
Bardic: competition, circle on Saturday night, Anglo-Saxon riddle game
Family activities for a range of ages, including the parents.
Details of all competitions will be available after June 15 at the event website.
Merchants are welcome! Please contact the autocrat with your questions.
Wearing Anglo-Saxon garb is encouraged but Norman, Danes, and other foreign travelers will not be turned away.
Both the day board (included in your site fee) and feast ($10 additional) will be Anglo-Saxon. For early arrivals, there will be some simple fare and hot beverages available on Friday evening as well as for breakfast on Saturday. Breakfast Sunday morning is included in the feast fee. The site is discreetly damp.
Feast is limited to 60, but there is plenty of off board seating in the hall for those who have brought their own food.
Children 9 and under are considered off board no matter where they sit for feast; they may eat food brought for them or share from the plate of a family member who is on board, or on board may be purchased for any child at the adult price.
Since this is a weekend-long event, there will be 50 cabin beds available as well as abundant space for tent camping. Two cabins (each 16 beds) are also available as group rentals only; please contact the reservations clerk before Sept. 27 if interested. The cabins have bunk beds and wood stoves for heat, but no running water. There is a latrine or port-a-johns beside each cabin, and modern restroom and shower facilities are also available nearby.
Site Opens: 5 pm Friday
Site Closes: 1 pm Sunday
