|Bhakail Yule: A Tudor Yule ||Event date: December 14th, 2013|
|Hosted by Barony of Bhakail - Philadelphia, PA||Event Last Modified: December 12th, 2013|
|Warmest Greetings to all the glorious East Kingdom! Their Excellencies Mael Eoin & Ysmay, serene Baron and Baroness of mighty Bhakail have called for a celebration to be held. Bhakail's fields were fertile and Their Excellencies will spare no luxury for Their esteemed guests at Bhakail's annual Yule celebration. They have also called on Their Arts & Sciences and Brewing Champions to prepare competitions, so that successors may be chosen. In addition to a day full of feasting, socializing, and music, dancing will begin immediately following the final course and continue into the night. |
A drop-off area is located directly in front of the German Society building located on the corner of 7th and Spring Garden Sts.
Handicap parking is available on the East side of the German Society Buidling. This is for staff and handicap persons only, it is a very small lot.
A private lot is located 1 block west on Spring Garden St, just before the corner of 8th and Spring Garden. It is operated by NorthEast Parking Systems and costs $5 for the day.
A map will be available shortly on bhakail.eastkingdom.org/yule
The Manor Hall
Guests may wish to register for a seat in the ballroom upstairs, dubbed the Manor Hall for the day, where Head Chef Alesone Gray of Cranleigh will be providing an all-day, 40-plate, 8-course, Tudor Celebration Feast, taken from the pages of William Dunche's Book of the New Ordinary of the King's Most Honourable Household, from the 31st year of the Reign of Henry VIII. Hall Steward Baron Meszaros Janos will be organizing a team of cup-bearers, butlers, and many others to serve you properly in the Tudor style, from hand-washing to serving you from the last tasting plate for the day. Courtly music will sound out from the balcony, to accompany conviviality and games while Their Excellencies' table will sit upon the stage.
All attendees are free to visit the Manor Hall, but servers will only serve and attend those with Manor Hall reservations.
The Black Salamander Inn
Everyone is welcome to visit and partake in the food and merriment of the Black Salamander Inn, downstairs in the site's German Ratskellar. Sous Chef Lady Arianna de Ravenwood will provide wholesome fare with the warm informality of a Tudor Inn. Gaming is expected, and musicians will have a corner for festive music throughout the day - until the Inn is closed for court.
The Children's Feast
All children (0-5) and youth (6-12) that are registered for the Manor Hall or the Black Salamander Inn, are invited to join in the Children's Feast free of charge! Prepared by Lord Bryan mac Dhunghaill an Boghadair and Lady Alesia de Maris of Ravenstar, let your young ones enjoy some food prepared especially for them in the Black Salamander Inn while the adults sit upstairs in court. Fun activities will round out the time before everyone is back at their revels.
After court, half the tables of the Manor Hall will be cleared out for dancing, and all attendees are invited to join in and partake in a large dessert course.
Your site fee is included in the price to register for each of the above dining options. There is no separate site fee.
Patterns for Tudor clothing that are easy to follow will available on the event webpage.
**Tudor clothing is not required, but is encouraged, to help add to the atmosphere.**
Bhakail's Tudor Yule will be held at The German Society of Pennsylvania, a beautiful historical site (www.GermanSociety.org). Handicap parking will be available at the building, and there is some street parking around the site. Parking will also be available in a private lot just one block from the site [more information to come].
The SCA does not serve alcohol. However, the site is wet: attendees are permitted to responsibly share the fruits of their study of brewing with others. Brewers should coordinate with the Black Hat Brewers and local Brotherhood of Brewers by contacting Louis la Chatrie at email@example.com or 505-980-1113.
Candles and table lamps are permitted. We will be providing table cloths in the Manor Hall.
The site is also ADA accessible; there is an elevator that connects the Manor Hall, Balcony, Black Salamander Inn, and restroom facilities.
***Bhakail Arts & Sciences Champion Competition***
The theme for this years' competition is "Something that a person would have on their person." This can be an article of clothing, an object such as a purse, fan, or perhaps a miniature portrait. Jewelry, walking stick, glasses, something that smelled nice? Fighters, this also includes armor, swords, and heraldry! Make anything your hearts desire. I will be judging on workmanship, documentation about the object, and overall creativity. In your documentation, please include information about how you made your entry, including the tools used compared to the tools used during the time that the article would have existed. If you wish to include images, you may include them on separate pages and refer to them in your writings. Just have them attached to the document.
-Lady Angela Mori, Arts & Sciences Champion of Bhakail
***Bhakail Brewing Champion Competition***
Hail all ye good brewers of the lands. I, the Brew master and current Champion of Bhakail do issue a challenge to you all to celebrate the festive season of Yule. Since beer is not brewed commonly in these fine competitions, I will award 5 extra points for all those who enter a beer in this year's Baronial Brewing Champion competition. Other potables will be accepted, but beer is favored this year. The following categories will be accepted this year:
1. Beer/Ale/Gruit (+5 Points)
As usual, documentation is important and is worth 10 points in the contest. Please label all entries and provide at least an ingredients list. I challenge all brewers to help make this Yule the best year ever for entries in this competition.
